The Arisen's Shadow is a Quest for Dragon's Dogma 2 (DD2). As you help the captain with matters of the palace and continue your good deeds as the true Arisen, you've noticed someone following your every move and try to figure out what the circumstances behind this are, with Captain Brant's aid and advice. This quest is affected by the passage of time. This quest has multiple outcomes.

A shadow dogs your every step—perhaps sent by someone who did not take kindly to you prying into palace affairs? You had best confront this individual and find out their intent.

How to Unlock The Arisen's Shadow Quest in Dragon's Dogma 2

This quest is unlocked as you make progress in the Main Story, which involves completing one or two of the quests that Captain Brant will ask of you to do. Afterward, this quest will trigger as you walk around the town. See The Arisen's Shadow on the [Dragon's Dogma 2 Map].

Dragon's Dogma 2 The Arisen's Shadow Quest Notes & Tips

  • Unlocking this quest requires the player to complete 1 or a few of the Quests given by Captain Brant.
  • This quest has multiple outcomes:
    • Choosing to apprehend Bermudo, or choosing to ask him for payment but then refusing it which causes the fight that gets him arrested, will have you transported directly to the tavern to speak to Captain Brant.
    • Choosing to release Bermudo cleanly will lead to an additional objective of speaking to Captain Brant and then waiting a few more days for him to uncover the stalker's identity as Bermudo, as well as his purpose.
  • This quest may sometimes be bugged and prevent Captain Brant from stopping your fight:
    • When fighting Bermudo, choose to just grab or grapple him for as long as it takes, and use Curatives to last as long as you can until Captain Brant makes an appearance. Or carry him to the captains location. Day: North guardhouse captains quarters. Night: The Stardrop inn.
    • If you happen to kill Bermudo, you'll have to use a Wakestone to revive him. For the best result, if it was still nighttime when you killed him, you can carry his corpse directly to Captain Brant at his usual spot at The Stardrop Inn first and then revive him in front of the good (but sometimes late for whatever reason) captain.
    • If you happen to kill Bermudo and for whatever reason left the scene for a while or had some issues with loading, and later on find that his body is gone upon returning, you can find his body at the Vermund Charnel House [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map], and then either revive him there and attempt to carry his body over to Captain Brant at night before reviving him.

Dragon's Dogma 2 The Arisen's Shadow Quest Walkthrough

Contend With Your Pursuer

After leaving the Tavern upon completion of Monster Culling, your Pawns will notice that you are being watched as you walk out into town. You'll have to try and spot out this shadow who's tailing you, and then corner him to a confrontation. You're looking for a hooded character, with tools and a pouch around his belt. You'll be slightly faster than him and eventually chase him down. Some players have reported a hard time with this however, while for others he ran right into a dead end. If you're using a ranged Vocation, you can actually try and hit him from afar to initiate the next part of the quest, especially if you're a Mage or Sorcerer. Otherwise, just run him down and then press the Grab button to tackle him.

If you're having trouble, you can rest to pass the time. For us, during the day, as we were heading toward the northeastern gate of Vernworth, a Minotaur appeared and wreaked havoc inside the town. If this happens to you as well, try to spot your stalker, as he will also be affected by this event and run away. You can use the chance to bump into him, revealing his identity. His name is Bermudo and he will come clean that he's an agent with a task to keep an eye on you. He will then try to bribe you, and you'll have the option to let him go or apprehend him.

Outcome 1: Accept the Bribe and Let Him Go

To let him go, you can just accept the gold outright by first demanding payment and then accepting the money. He will happily oblige and this will complete the quest with an additional 1000 G added to your reward, for a total of 5000 G.

Outcome 2: Refuse the Bribe and Apprehend Him

For this outcome, you can either outright refuse his bribe, or first choose the demand compensation option but then refuse his gold. These dialogue choices while talking to Bermudo will trigger a fight against him. Ideally, the fight won't last at all, as Brant will appear to catch the criminal and your next objective is to talk to Captain Brant after a few days once they can get information out of the agent.

NOTE: Other players have reported certain complications with this route, as sometimes Captain Brant takes too long to arrive and the player ends up killing Bermudo, thus disallowing the Quest to be completed at all. If this happens, players have reported the following options to have worked for them:

  • When fighting Bermudo, choose to just grab or grapple him for as long as it takes, and use Curatives to last as long as you can until Captain Brant makes an appearance.

Wait a Few Days, Then Speak With Captain Brant

As the captain tries to interrogate your stalker, you can finish a few Side Quests if you want or go out and explore. Whatever you choose to do, you'll have to allow the Day and Night Cycle to pass a few times before going back to see what Captain Brant has found out, if anything. As always, you can also force days to pass by sleeping on your bed or resting at the special benches or campfires.

After a few days have passed, head to the usual tavern to speak to the captain. Choose the option to "Tell me of the captured agent." He'll tell you that he's confirmed his suspicions about Bermudo being an agent from Battahl through his interrogations. His job seems to have begun upon learning about your escape from the gaol. As for how he learned of your escape, the captain will continue interrogations to find out more and promises to appraise you of any information he is able to extract further.

Tip: bring a wakestone with you. Sometimes Brandt won't show up and your pawns can gang bang the spy to death pretty quickly. If he dies and Brandt hasn't shown up using a wakestone to revive him should trigger the Brandt cutscenes.

I killed him and didn't know about the key he gives for the cross point town gate. I got to cheat on ever quest now.

        • Anonymous

Indeed, get him low enough and just take him straight to the Inn and it will trigger the "cutscene" as soon as you put him down.

If it’s night and Bran doesn’t show up, you can carry Bermudo to the tavern and drop him at Bran’s feet to trigger the event

So I accidentally killed him without realizing he was so important. Now I can't find his body in the morgue and am stuck.

I swear this guy is either bugged out or stops spawning after certain quests cause I turned the entire city upside down at all times of day and cannot for the life of me find him and the quest still remains saying "lol look for him "

                • Anonymous

I grabbed him on a staircase and he straight up bugged through the ground taking me along. So don't do that

                  • Anonymous

In my case, the fight happened near the pier and he got knocked off into the brine and has yet to spawn in the morgue after many days.

This quest might have a bug where Captain Brant doesn't show up to end the fight... I ended up completely draining Bermudo's health bar and he just laid on the ground and disappeared a day later. I have no idea how to progress since Bermudo hasn't reappeared.
