Every Rose Has Its Thorn is a Quest for Dragon's Dogma 2 (DD2). Every Rose Has Its Thorn is affected by the passage of time. It seems Wilhelmina is haunted by her past and has been plotting a vengeful plan to take down Allard. The Arisen offers his/her aid in finding pieces of evidence to prove the crimes of Allard.

Wilhelmina, proprietress of the Myrmecoleon, is determined to exact vengeance on the man who wronged her—but what crime could possibly have inspired such hatred?

How to Unlock Every Rose Has Its Thorn Quest in Dragon's Dogma 2

Progress the main story by beating the quests "The Stolen Throne" and "An Unsettling Encounter". Speak to Wilhelmina a few times until she delivers several lines of dialogue at once, ending with "Here I am...". She may only deliver this dialogue if her affinity with you is high enough; you may need to speak to give her a gift once a day until she gives you the line (she likes Bunch of Flowers). Now, after she says this, rest at an inn or perform some other method to advance time outside of the Noble Quarter. Then go up the top floor of the Rose Chateau Bordelrie and you should find Rolf standing outside the room next to Wilhelmina's. If this still isn't the case for you after resting, other people have reported traveling out of the city and then going back to be able to start this quest. Go inside Wilhelmina's room and use the peephole to eavesdrop on Wilhelmina and Allard. After the cutscene, you'll speak to Wilhelmina. Choose "Offer your assistance" to unlock the quest. Choosing to dissuade her will permanently lock you out of starting the quest, and Wilhelmina will say that she doesn't want to speak to you anymore. See Every Rose Has Its Thorn on the [Dragon's Dogma 2 Map].

Dragon's Dogma 2 Every Rose Has Its Thorn Quest Notes & Tips

  • This is a Time-Sensitive quest.
  • This quest unlocks a Romance scene with Wilhelmina if you choose the best outcome for this quest, and make sure to complete the quest during the day to avoid problems with getting the romance scene.
  • This quest has multiple outcomes:
    • Tell Allard about the plot.
    • Help Wilhelmina in assassinating Allard.
    • Refuse to aid Wilhelmina in assassinating Allard.
  • If you go to Brant for a hint on how to find the second piece of evidence (after finding the first piece of evidence), make sure that when the pop-up appears where you can show him your current findings to cancel out of it first so you can still try to secure his aid later on.
  • When showing Brant the evidence to secure his aid (after getting BOTH pieces of evidence), make sure to first show him the Bribery evidence first and then choose the option to show him more. Then show him the Murder Report. Make sure to choose the bottom option and /NOT/ to beg for his aid to successfully secure it when you try to escape the Noble Quarter later on.
  • When giving the evidence to Wilhelmina, make sure to be able to give the Murder Report and /not just/ the Bribery evidence, as the latter will result to Wilhelmina getting arrested.
  • This quest is canceled if you fail to provide the evidence to Wilhelmina in 3 days.
  • If you acquire the best outcome, you can unlock a dialogue option for Hugo when offering him a job during his quest line "Off the Pilfered Path".

Dragon's Dogma 2 Every Rose Has Its Thorn Quest Walkthrough

Gather the Evidence for Wilhelmina

Every Rose Has Its Thorn is a time-limited quest. You must find the evidence that proves the crimes of Allard and give it to Wilhelmina within 3 days. If you are looking for information on "how to unlock" this quest, you can find it listed above. After speaking to Wilhelmina, head back to Shakir's Inn and take the Marcher's set. You should have acquired this set during the main quest "Disa's Plot", you find this inside a chest found in The Guardhouse. The Marcher's set will help disguise yourself and you can easily walk around since the castle is a restricted area.

Proceed to Sven's Chambers and speak to Sven. When speaking to Sven, he may ask you for a task that will trigger one of his quests, "A Veil of Gossamer Clouds'. Listen and take the quest item from him, then speak to him again and he'll mention Allard. He will tell you that there is a man Ser Patrick who can help you. Proceed to his home at night, Patrick's Estate", and speak to him, You'll find him inside his house [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map]. Ensure you listen to what he says since he will give a tip about finding the first evidence. He will also help you infiltrate Allard's home by distracting him. Choose "Agree", and the scene will transition to where you'll find yourself outside.

At this point, you may choose to end the quest early by speaking to Allard and informing him of the plot against him. Please note that ending the quest in this way will prevent you from romancing Wilhelmina as she will be arrested. The reward is also much lower for this outcome as he only gives you 3,000 gold. If you instead decide to continue helping Wilhelmina, continue to the next step.

FIRST EVIDENCE: Allard's Estate is just near Patrick's home, it's on the left side if you're looking at the map [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map]. Wait for Allard to leave his home before you enter, go up the second floor, and immediately go inside the first room near the staircase. In this office room, inspect the left-hand side and you'll find an oval-shaped painting of a flower. Examine it to find the Murder Report.

second evidence map location every rose has its thron quest dragons dogma 2 wiki guide

Map Location for the Second Evidence.

SECOND EVIDENCE: To obtain a tip on finding the second evidence, head to The Stardrop Inn at night and speak to Brant. Speak to him and choose "Tell me of the Myrmecoleon." When a pop-up appears giving you the option of giving him the murder report, just cancel out of it without giving it to him. He will tell you that you may find evidence from one of the merchants who resides in the merchant quarter. This is optional as you may be able to find the evidence yourself by going to where it is. The second piece of evidence is located near Clovis's Barberie. You can go inside the house and pick up the Bribery Investigation Findings on the table.

Give Wilhelmina the Evidence

You now have both pieces of evidence. Before you give Wilhelmina the evidence, you may choose whether to secure Brant's aid or not. This step is completely optional and some have reported that seeking his aid may prevent you from getting the outcome with a romance scene depending on how you show him the evidence. On the other hand, if you secure his aid, it will prevent the guards from chasing you later on in the quest, which will help a lot.

If you decide to seek his aid, head back to The Stardrop Inn (at night), then choose "Tell me of the Myrmecoleon." Note that other players have had trouble with this so you may need to follow the exact order showed here. Show him the Bribery Investigation Findings first. After he reviews the evidence, choose the next dialogue, "Search for more evidence." Speak to him again and then show him the other piece of evidence. After he checks it, you'll get another dialogue option. Choose "I'll have any aid you can give." Choosing to beg for his aid will result in failing to receive it. This will update your quest log, showing you've secured the captain's aid.

Rest until morning before proceeding, as you may miss the romance scene if you complete this quest at night. Proceed to the Rose Chateau Bordelrie and speak to Wilhelmina. You can find her in her room on the balcony. If you went to Brant before speaking to her and successfully secured his aid, he would have told you that the Bribery Investigation Findings aren't enough evidence for the palace to ignore Allard's death, so you'll only have the Murder Report as an option to give Wilhelmina. If you previously chose not to go to Brant before this, you'll have both pieces of evidence as options to give Wilhelmina. Make sure to give her both pieces of evidence, or at least make sure you give her the Murder Report. Players have reported that giving her only the Bribery Investigation Findings may have her arrested abruptly.

Outcome 1: Help Wilhelmina in assassinating Allard

After giving her the bribery and murder report, Wilhelmina will ask if you intend to see this through to the end. Choose "Continue offering your aid," and Wilhelmina will change into a disguise. Follow her outside, and she'll tell you that Allard is inside the room next to hers. Go inside and tackle Allard to the ground to trigger a cutscene that reveals Wilhelmina's true identity and Allard's assassination.

After the cutscene, escape through the window by jumping into the hay below. If you previously, and successfully, chose to secure Brant's aid, a dialogue cutscene will trigger with him. He's not happy about your participation in killing Allard, but he will help you escape the premises safely. If you previously chose not to secure his aid, you will get a dialogue with Wilhelmina asking you to visit her later. Then the guards will begin chasing you. You can kill them, but if you'd rather avoid bloodshed you can run outside of town while pressing the To me! command at your pawns to prevent them from killing guards. After running a short distance outside of town, the music will return to normal. At this point, the guards will have forgotten you and you are free to enter the city again.

Regardless of how you escape, if you have a house in Vermund already, when you go home you'll find a note from Wilhelmina expressing her affection for you right by your door. Next, rest until night and then return to Wilhelmina. Speak to her and a romance cutscene will play out. This will also formally complete the quest and you'll be rewarded with 8,500 G, x1 Ring of Benevolence, and 1,200 XP.

Outcome 2: Refuse to help Wilhelmina in assassinating Allard

After presenting the murder and bribery report to Wilhelmina, decline to help her when she asks if you intend to see this through till the end. She will gift you the Allheal Elixir at this time. This outcome will have Wilhelmina still murdering Allard, but you won't have the romance scene with her since the officials will capture her. Return to her room after a day to collect the remaining rewards from her attendant. The rewards for this outcome are worth more than the other two. Altogether you will get 1,200 XP, 7,500 G, 3 Tiger Eye and an Allheal Elixir.

Outcome 3: Tell Allard of the Plot

After asking Patrick to summon Allard to his home, you can speak to Allard after he leaves his house and inform him of the plot against him. Please note that ending the quest in this way will prevent you from romancing Wilhelmina as she will be arrested. This outcome has the smallest reward with only 3,000 G and 1,200 XP.

DD2 Every Rose Has Its Thorn Quest Objectives

  • Gather evidence within three days.
  • Deliver the evidence to Captain Brant to secure his aid.
  • Deliver the evidence to Wilhelmina.
  • Speak to Wilhelmina at night.

Every Rose Has Its Thorn Quest Rewards in Dragon's Dogma 2

This Quest has multiple Outcomes. Outcome 1: Helped Wilhelmina assassinate Allard

Nothing good can come of vengeance, and yet to deny it is to deny oneself the chance to move forward. With your aid, Wilhelmina saw her revenge wrought to satisfaction, and has pledged to aid you in turn.

Outcome 2: Refused to help Wilhelmina assassinate Allard

Nothing good can come of vengeance, and yet to deny it is to deny oneself the chance to move forward. Wilhelmina sought closure at any cost, and wrought her revenge in exchange for her own freedom.

Outcome 3: Tell Allard of the Plot

Believing that vengeance begets only suffering, you decided to inform Allard of the plot against his life. Fortune willing, this will prevent the tragedy from being repeated.

I'm here to confirm that you can present both pieces of evidence to Brant (Bribery Investigation Findings, then Murder Report, then "ask" for aid, do not "beg") and still present both documents to Wilhelmina afterwards. You have to be careful when giving the documents to Wilhelmina though because selecting 1 document will automatically select the proceed/confirm button, so you have to make sure you select the second slot and also add the other piece of evidence before proceeding. Continue to offer your support to Wilhelmina and you'll get the cutscene with Allard, escape out the window afterwards to meet Brant, he'll lead you out of the Noble's Quarters where he'll then criticize your decision and imply there may be consequences for your actions, and then you can return to the Borderlie after a day to get Wilhelmina's romance scene. Also, I'm not sure how much affinity with Wilhelmina matters because I only remember giving her one Bunch of Flowers before she locked herself in the side room with "a patron", but then I left her there for literal weeks because I completely forgot about the peephole mechanic

      • Anonymous

Since info on this page and the comments is conflicted, I'll offer my experience after just finishing this quest where I got both pieces of evidence, showed them to BOTH Brant and Wilhelmina, and got Wilhelmina's romance scene:

        1. Follow the initial quest requirements on this current page to get Wilhelmina in a state where she's locked in the side room and Rolf tells you she's busy with "a patron" (NOTE: I don't know if affinity matters because I gave her only one Bunch of Flowers when I first met her, but then left her in the "patron" room for literal weeks because I completely forgot about the peephole mechanic and didn't know how to progress the quest)
        2. Use the peephole to see her having a conversation with Allard, after which she'll talk to you in her room where you can offer your assistance to start the quest
        3. You now have three days to finish the quest, so hop over to Sven's room and talk to him to learn about Patrick (NOTE: if you have multiple active quests involving Sven, you may need to talk to him multiple times to get the correct dialogue)
        4. Pass time till night, go to Patrick's Estate, then agree to having him distract Allard
        5. Head over to Allard's house, you'll probably see him walking out the front door by the time you get there, just wait a minute for him to pass then head inside
        6. Go to the second floor room specified in the current guide to inspect the small painting above a small table to get the Murder Report
        7. Now go to the Vernworth portcrystal and refer to the circled building on the current guide to pick up the Bribery Investigation Report, which is just sitting on a table inside
        8. Head over to the tavern and talk to Brant, ask him about the Myrmecoleon, show him the Bribery Investigation Findings, then back out of any other dialogue options (NOTE: do NOT ask for his aid yet)
        9. Talk to Brant again, ask him about the Myrmecoleon again, show him the Murder Report, then choose "I'll have any aid you can give" (NOTE: do NOT "beg")
        10. Check your inventory, you should still have BOTH pieces of evidence (Brant does NOT keep either document, but you also do NOT receive the usual notification for offering something to an NPC and getting it back)
        11. Pass time until morning, then head over to the Rose Chateau Borderlie, talk to Wilhelmina, and offer her both pieces of evidence (NOTE: offering just ONE piece of evidence will cause the menu to automatically select the proceed/confirm option, make sure you navigate to the other document slot and offer BOTH of them before proceeding)
        12. Wilhelmina gives an oddly short affirmation of the evidence then talks about confronting Allard, choose to "continue offering your aid"
        13. Wilhelmina will put on a disguise and tell you to go into the room to subdue Allard, run in and tackle him to proceed to the cutscene
        14. After the cutscene where she kills Allard, a guard will knock on the door and Wilhelmina will tell you to jump out the window to escape
        15. Immediately escaping out the window should automatically initiate a dialogue with Brant outside where he starts to question your actions, but acknowledges that making an escape is a more pressing matter. Follow him out of the Noble's Quarter and he should talk to you again near the portcrystal
        16. Brant will express shock at your decision to kill Allard, but will say that he'll still do everything he can to obfuscate your involvement before noting that you may still have to deal with the consequences of your actions when the time comes (NOTE: I do not know what consequences, if any, this will cause)
        17. Pass time for at least one day then go talk to Wilhelmina and you should automatically get her romance cutscene upon entering her room, as well as the associated rewards after the cutscene

After following these steps, Allard is dead, Brant is a bit upset, and Wilhelmina has both gotten her revenge and been successfully romanced. After the quest completes Wilhelmina no longer seems to be inside the Borderlie, even after a full day's rest, but that's an investigation for another day

Y'all giving guides on how to do the quest and I can't even start the quest on the other hand lmao she doesn't give me the quest at all despite the fact that I've given her so many flowers.

          • Anonymous

Most of this quest guide is correct, although not all of it (at least in my experience)

            1. You don't need to raise Wilhelmina's affinity before the quest (in my first playthrough I didn't give her any gifts, on my second I did, the quests remains the same)
            2. After starting the quest, talk to Sven, go past all his dialogue until her mentions Allard, go though the rest and you can talk to Patrick and get the first piece of evidence from Allard's home
            3. From here you can talk to Capt Brant and DO NOT BEG for help (I went to him for both my playthroughs, but I think you can skip talking to him completely from what I've seen other people say, but it might make your escape after killing Allard more difficult)
            4. Get the second piece of evidence in the Merchant's Quarters
            5. Take BOTH piece of evidence to Wilhelmina (I gave her both pieces on both of my playthroughs and it works out perfectly fine)
            6. Help her assassinate Allard and escape through the balcony, Brant will be right there to escort you away (no need to ferrystone away as long as you leave as soon as you can)
            7. Follow and talk to Brant
            8. Then wait until the next night on a bench or inn
            9. All set, you get the romance scene and all the rewards

here is how i did it: all in 1 night (prob optional)

              1. went to sven:
              2. who sent me to patrick who distracted Allard,
              3. picked up the murder report (in marches uniform, but probably not important)
              4. went to brant: gave him murder report (similarly to guide)
(after this i picked up the bribe report but couldnt give it to brant anymore)
              5. told him to give me any help he can (he refused when i begged, so reloaded)
              6. went to wilhelmina, gave ONLY murder report
              7. immediately helped her getting allard
              8. jumped out of window, brant wasnt happy but when i walked out of premise guards attacked me (reloaded) so i ferrystoned to harve to get away without being seen, ferrystoned back after suspicious music subsided (no wait, no sleep)
              9. just walked around a couple of minutes in bordell until wilhelmina spawned back in her room.
              10. Romance scene haha
all without needing the bribe report

step8 is prob also without ferrystone but thief-sneaky-skill possible to get away from guards

              • Anonymous

Confirming what others have said; this guide is wrong (unsurprisingly). I got the best ending and I did as such; didn’t go back to brant for help, gave her both pieces of evidence, helped her (obviously), ran out the city until the combat music stopped then went straight back in and rested. Outcome 3: Tell Allard of the Plot

If u come back to Patrick's house while Allard is there with him u can have a dialogue with Allard and tell him about Wilhelmina's plan. Can somebody check the outcome if u do so please?

                  • Anonymous

I can assure you guys, this quest is still available to do even after you finish the feast of deception quest. I'm on my way to finish Hugo questline and i forgot about this quest and i reloaded my last inn save to cancel the ending of Hugo questline and started this quest.

                    • Anonymous

Do NOT talk to Brant, talk to Sven instead, he will advise you to talk to Patrick who will distract Allard so you can grab the murder report from Allards house. You will get dialogue with Wilhelmina that says that the palace "decided to consider Allard's death an accident".
I also did this quest after killing Gigantus, so you can complete feast of deception and still get this.

                      • Only give her the murder report and not the bribery findings. Might be a bug, but she'll get arrested if you give the bribery findings, for some reason.

                        • I gave Brant the Murder Report and asked him to help without begging. Then gave the Bribery Report to Wilhelmina. She was Arrested and I was given 7500g and 3x Tigers Eye.

                          • Anonymous

You can inform Allard of the plan if you kill him then revive him but just by carrying his body it will aggro half the city

Does helping murder Allard have any actual negative effects? Like does Brants affinity go down and does he not help you on future quests?

It was already dark when I helped her with the assassination.
When I waited until the following night to speak with her, she had already been arrested and I missed the romance scene. **** this quest.

You can get Brant help, but you MUST give Wilhelmina the MURDER REPORT. On my first attempt I did not pay attention and the first item shown is not the murder report, and it puts her in jail. I made the quest work once with the speedrun solution below, and a second time by doing the steps here. You must make sure to give her the murder report though, I believe if you don't, she puts the other documents on the guy's body and Brant doesn't consider it enough to bypass the law. (as he mentions when you show him the document.) When I got Brant's help, I just gave her both documents and it worked.

tl;dr: Brant or no Brant, you need to give the murder report to Wilhelmina.

After talking to Brant for the tip on where to find the merchant evidence DO NOT GIVE HIM THE MURDER REPORT or it won't give you any option to look for additional evidence.

                                      • Anonymous

Started this quest while having The Guardian Gigantus active, which is a quest that's pretty late in the main story. One roadblock is Wilhemina actually liking you enough. Giving her flowers once did the trick for me, but some Arisen have a lower base like value for some reason. I don't know what affects it, but it's not consistent between playthroughs, so just give her gifts until her dialogue changes. Then rest, then come back.

You also don't need to finish the Brant portion in order to complete this. You can go straight to her after you have both evidence. After getting caught, I ferrystoned out to Harve village, walked into town, then went back once the music stopped.

I've gotten far in the game to the point where I gotten the godsbane and had Talos activated but not attacking yet anything yet. I was able to actually get this quest long, long after I done Feast of Deception though I never gotten a romance or escort quest from Wilhelmina like with Ulrika in the former or the elf guy in Vernworth for the latter. I did however get some unique dialogue from Wilhelmina about how she could of been something else. Resting at the inn then brought me to being told by an npc at the chateau that Wilhelmina was seeing someone. I don't think a romance quest needs to be done but as the guide said, gift her some flowers along with completing the other quest about a phantom ox-cat and she'll pretty much advance to giving you this quest if you accept.

You can speedrun this quest. Go to the merchant house and gather the evidence.

Go to Allard house and enter in his room. The guard Will attack you. Avoid the guard, click on the rounded portrait (picturing a flower) and the evidence will drop. Get this evidence and run to very far away. The combat music will cease and you can go straight to wilhelmina and deliver the evidences.

Help her with the murder, dont fight the guards and run away. Then you can come back to her after.

You will get the cutscene and all rewards and do not need to involve Brant in this “murder for get lady” thing

Once you gather all the evidence be sure to rest till morning and then see Wilhelmina. After you help her with Allard and escape, doze off on a bench until it’s dark and then see her again to get the cutscene and actual rewards. If you do everything at night and then come back she seems to get taken away and Rolfe gives you other stuff.

Did this quest right after I did Feast of Deception. Did the evidence gathering and assassination quest in one night then sat on a bench for half a day. Went to see Wilhelmina during the day and slept with her. Everyone says to give her flowers to do her evidence quest, but I never gave her any flowers nor did any other quests she might have given out like the oxcart mission which I haven't received yet. I might have missed out on that one if it is given out before Feast of Deception because now she's gone.

Did this before "feast of deception" and worked. Got both evidences, gave one to brant and one to her, killed the creep, escaped with brant, than slept at the inn till night and then slept with her.

                                                  • Anonymous

I had an issue completing this quest. I followed all of the steps to get the "best outcome"

Issue was, I did all the steps within the first night. It was night when I turned in all the evidence and proceeded to the assassination.

The quest says to visit her another time and the wiki says to rest until night to get the romance scene when you go back.

It was still night when I did it all so I sat on the bench through a full day to the next night.

An npc was in front of her doors to give me the quest rewards. She was taken by the guards and I did not get to speak with her.

She does NOT end up in the gaol. Missed out on the romance scene.

Did someone try to tell Allard the plot ? You can do this when you collect the murder evidence, then go back to Patrick's house. As he summoned Allard, you can reveal him Wilhelma's plan. I chose not to, but I wonder what happens then.

                                                      • Anonymous

PSA: If you miss this quest because you completed the "Feast of Deception" quest, there is a way to get it to trigger even after. It seems that romance really is the key to triggering this quest.

I gave Wilhelmina the Eternal Bond ring and slept at my house. Once I came back, the guard was standing at the door as described in the guide here. I suppose it's possible to get this to trigger without the Eternal Bond ring if you continue to gift her items that she likes until she falls for you. Though, I don't know how many items it takes, or if it even works at all.

Just unlocked this quest after smashing Talos in The Guardian Gigantus. Wil was even revived after pawns killed everyone. Just gave her a bunch of flowers and she was ready to rock that evening. Doubt this quest is missable

                                                          • Anonymous

I did everything up to the point where she asks you to come back the next day for your reward. But when I went back Rolf was there and told me that she was arrested basically and he gave me the mission rewards. I think this might be because I didn't increase my affinity with her prior to doing the quest? I'm now locked out from the romance scene, sucks.

                                                            • You definitely don't need to have done "Feast of Deception" or the ghost Ox cart stuff or have given her any gifts (I haven't).
I just visited her one late afternoon, didn't pay any attention to who was at her door, went in, didn't see her, looked around and found the peephole.
From what I've seen, you just need to finish the 2 main quests where she first appears (The Stolen Throne and Unsettling Encounter I believe). There might be other prerequisites of course, but they are not the "Feast of Deception" quest or the ones I've seen in the comments so far.

You don't actually need to get Brant's support, if you can manage to kill the 4 soldiers that come after you after dropping from window

                                                                • Anonymous

There is a guy outside the room on the right where Wilhelminas main room is. When he tells you that she is busy with someone else, interact with the painting that was used earlier in another quest.

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

I havent really seen anyone talk about this.
But in the merchant quarters, in someone's house at night I found a message of bribery, that I could also give wilhelmina, as well as talking to captain brant after i found out about the murder. Talking to brant actually gives some neat info, where he cant help you if you get caught.
I gave both the murder report and the bribery to her and she let me help her with the murder, she revealed her secret (which i thought was pretty awesome), and after that brant helped us escape (i assume he helps cover it up). And you can come back in a few days for your romance scene.

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                          • Anonymous

When I arrived at night she was already taken away by the royal guard even though I kept her hands clean by doing the deed myself. I did not see her in the prison, so I'm not sure if she just gets yeeted out of the game or if she's jailed somewhere else... The rewards were pretty much the same as if I decided to Leave instead of offering to help her further.
