Prey for the Pack is a Quest for Dragon's Dogma 2 (DD2). Prey for the Pack is affected by the passage of time. This quest involves helping Morris's grandson who was taken by a pack of wolves, so you must come to his aid immediately.

A pall hangs over the Checkpoint Rest Town, as fear for the grandson of the local apothecary lines every face. It falls to you to find the boy, and spare him a grizzly fate.

How to Unlock Prey for the Pack Quest in Dragon's Dogma 2

The Prey for the Pack is unlocked when you approach Morris' shop in Vernworth. Choose the dialogue option "Pledge your assistance" as you listen to the details of the conversation between Morris and Lutz. See Prey for the Pack on the [Dragon's Dogma 2 Map].

Dragon's Dogma 2 Prey for the Pack Quest Notes & Tips

  • This is a Time-Sensitive quest.
  • Hurry to complete this quest as Rodge can die if the quest is unattended.
  • Do not rest when you are in the progress of this quest. The passage of time will result in Rodge's death.
  • This quest does not unlock any other quest
  • This quest has multiple outcomes:
    • Rodge is safely escorted back home
    • You arrived too late to aid Rodge, or You found Rodge but failed to escort him back home safely.
  • Follow the blue glowing flowers to find the entrance of the Putrid Cave.
  • There have been reports or instances that the quest is bugged or can cause it to fail. Some example/s are:
    • Encountering an Oxcart while you escort Rodge back to the town. Riding an oxcart can cause the quest to bug or potentially break, preventing you from completing the quest.
  • Make sure that when you escort Rodge, you travel back to the town on foot. And keep him safe. You can carry him so that you can guarantee that he won't walk in different directions since the NPC will sometimes move around weirdly.
  • This quest will fail if you don't reach him in time or ignore the passage of time. The end result will have the player finding Rodge nowhere to be found in the cave since he's been killed by the wolves.

Dragon's Dogma 2 Prey for the Pack Quest Walkthrough

Find Rodge and Go to his aid

Rodge, the apothecary's grandson, has fallen prey to a pack of wolves. After pledging your assistance to Morris, you will be advised to speak with the townsfolk to find out where the lad was last seen and determine where the beasts have taken him, then hasten to his aid. To find out where Rodge is, first, speak with Lutz who was just talking to Morris. Then, go to the townspeople gathered outside The Sword and Staff.

There are 3 NPCs that you can gather information from. First is Timothy, he's wearing a blue shirt and a round hat. Then, look for the child named Alsa wearing a green dress and work boots. The final NPC is an elderly woman named Jacint, she's wearing a white dress with a cloth draped over her head. After talking to them, you will now get a marked location on your map that will lead to the Putrid Cave.

You will learn 3 things about Rodge's location:

  • It seems Rodge was by the cenotaph on the eastern side of town when he was set upon by wolves.
  • According to Jacint, Rodge tends to a flowerbed on the outskirts of town.
  • You learned that glowing flowers bloom anight in the area.

Take the Guerco Mountain Road, through the bridge where an oxcart is stationed. Staying on this path will lead you to Rodge's location. You will walk through a narrow river and pass through a short tunnel. Harpies are gathered at the end of this tunnel so be careful as you approach this short tunnel. Continue to follow the path up ahead which will lead you to a campfire situated on top of the Putrid Cave where flowers are glowing.

Again, it is not advised to rest as Rodge's life is on the line. Instead, go to the path on the lower side of the campfire where you see the Riftstone and a path that leads to the Putrid Cave. When you see the wooden bridge, this is the mark that you are in the right location.

Escort Rodge to the Checkpoint Rest Town

At this point, you MUST safely escort Rodge back to Checkpoint Rest Town. In the meantime, avoid exploring other locations and focus on getting back to the town safely as the quest can still fail. During our playthrough, it was dark when we found Rodge and we didn't stop to rest, we traveled back to town as fast as we could. The sun was up when we reached Checkpoint Rest Town and took Rodge to reunite him with Morris. After this short conversation, the Prey for the Pack will be marked as completed.

I lost the boy during the escort and he is nowhere to be found, I searched for half an hour. Can never complete this quest even tho I rescued him.

      • Anonymous

He died on my game and the guy reacts like nothing happened after the quests is finished it's so offputting wtf

        • If your quest appears to be glitched with Rodge still apparently alive but Morris will not acknowledge this, try returning to the cave you found Rodge in as he may be there. He was for me anyway, and I carried the little blighter back to the town on the second return to make sure he didn't wander off! Quest was completable on the delivery of the boy to Morris's shopfront.

If you explore the cave before taking the quest you can find the kid and it gives you the quest as if you had taken it.

Just in case, be sure to do it if you get too close to the cave, otherwise he might die off-screen. Otherwise try a wakestone.

This Quest was completly buged for me. Then i threw the boy into the face of Morris. Suddenly it worked again. O_o

I found Rodge alive first when randomly exploring before reaching the town. I got the quest to tell Morris rodge was alive, I didn't know where to go and didn't even knew who morris was, when I reached the town (without rodge) of course. Tells me to talk to Morris but it doesn't do nothing, maybe by the fact that I don't have rodge with me

Once you get the quest, run immediately to the putrid cave, it's too buggy to try to do it the intended way, asking people, going to flower beds or even listening to pawns- none will tell you where to go and it'll waste time. I'd also recommend not fighting the thousands of monsters along the way as the timer on this one seems to be random, from really long to really short.

So I accidentally found the kid before the quest he disappeared and now it tells me to report back to Morris but he just talks like it's a normal day to him

                    • Anonymous

Even after you talk to the three people the game doesn't tell you where to go. There is just too much land to cover without a guide.

Once/if you do find him, feel free to camp if it's dark.

This bugged out for me me thinks. It took ages for me to find all informants and the guard that lets you know of the putrid cave failed to trigger for literal ages. I thought the game would still be generous with time, but nah. I left to rescue the kid at night, since the lady near the well implies you have to follow the nightgown at night.
Well guess what, a ghost and an army of skeletons and wolves and goblins attack my party, it takes ages but we defeat them. We are in bad shape and there's no way we can proceed without resting. We reach the cave after what felt like ages and the kid has 100% been eaten. Good lord this felt bad.

I rescued Rodge, then on the way back escorting him, I came across an Ox Cart heading back the checkpoint rest town, decided to take it, and this completely broke the quest.

I'm on the "Inform Morris of Rodge's wellbeing" quest step, but when I talk to Morris it's just the typical merchant dialog.

I was making good time on this quest when a griffin swooped in and attacked me on the way there. it even flew me back to its nest. I was pretty underleveled for the griffin fight and it took me quite a while to beat it. Anyway, after I beat it, I teleported back to Vernmouth, took a nap, took an oxcart back to the rest town, then went to the cave. Welp, nothing but Rodge's clothes left. Anyhoo, moral of the story: don't take a nap while this quest is ongoing.

I found the old lady behind the apocathary nowhere near the circle. Bs I had to look up this page to fix this dumb as quest.

There is a trail of blue flowers to follow to the cave but for some reason despite knowing we're trying to save him he refuses to follow or let us carry him.

                                • Anonymous

Don't drop the child it will kill him. Also don't jump into the ravine water trying to die just quit without saving bine will make an autosave and you will be boned.
