What are Riftstones in Dragon's Dogma 2

Riftstones are access points that the Arisen can use to interact with an ethereal world called The Rift, where the Pawns are known to reside. Players can use Riftstones in order to employ Pawns created by other players all over the world. Given that you can hire other players' Main Pawns, it has long been assumed from the previous game, Dragon's Dogma, that the existence of Riftstones implies the existence of multiple worlds in the Dragon's Dogma universe, with each player's game world being one of them.

The first Riftstone can be accessed as early as the first few Main Quests. The Arisen will follow the NPC Justinn to the Borderwatch Outpost, where the Pawns await their true master. It is also here that the player is able to create their own Main Pawn, all during the events of the Main Quest Tale's Beginning.

Riftstones give access to the following features in The Rift:

  • Search for a Pawn: Seek out specific Pawns through their Pawn ID No., or filter searches using Stats, Specializations, Race, Inclination, etc.
  • View Linked Riftstones: Summon Pawns of certain characteristics based on Forgotten Riftstones you've activated
  • View Unique Pawns: View official Pawns and Pawn Rankings
  • Set a Pawn Quest: Set a Pawn Quest and corresponding reward for your Main Pawn to incentivize other players to hire them
  • Pawns in the Rift: See a list of Pawns that are currently in The Rift with the default search parameters, or parameters you've set

Everything We Know About Rifstones in Dragon's Dogma 2

What are Pawns in Dragon's Dogma 2

Pawns are mysterious beings in the game that serve no purpose other than to aid whoever is selected by the Great Dragons to become their Arisen. Pawns are said to have no personality or independence of their own but realize their full potential when working with an Arisen. They are identified with the Pawns mark on the palm of their hands.

Pawns can have different skill sets that can help the player both in combat and outside of combat - such as knowing the weaknesses of certain Enemies beforehand, as well has how to accomplished certain Quests. Supposedly, how other players have progressed in their own playthrough, and how they've customized their Main Pawns, will directly affect how useful they will be when you've employed them to join your team. New to this game, they will also now have specializations that play towards each of their individualities.

How to Hire Pawns in Dragon's Dogma 2

When you interact with a Riftstone, your surroundings will turn to that of The Rift, an ethereal dimension where you'll see a bunch of different Pawns wandering around you. You can interact with them to view their skill sets, specializations, levels and stats, Vocations, etc. If you like what you see, you can hire them and add them to your party in exchange for Rift Crystals.

You can also interact with the Riftstone again while you're in The Rift, to bring up the Riftstone menu. From here you can click "Search of a Pawn" to get to the Pawn Search menu, where you can filter your search further. If you know a player in real life who has a Main Pawn that you'd specifically like to hire, you can even search for their Pawn ID number, which all Main Pawns should have. If you do an advanced search, the Pawns wandering around The Rift will switch over to those that fit your search.

When you interact with one of the Pawns, you'll be able to see all their stats, down to their Pawn ID no. You can also see the Arisen of another world that created that Main Pawn, as well as their own character details. It is also here that you can find whether or not the Pawn can guide you on Quests.

If they have a Pawn Quest available, you will be able to obtain the Reward specified therein if you complete the Pawn Quest, giving you further incentive to hire the Pawn. If you end up liking a certain Pawn, you can put it on your Favorites list here so you can have easier access to them later on. Finally, click "Hire" to exchange the appropriate amount of Rift Crystals and hire them.

DD2 What are Rift Crystals and How to Get Them

Rift Crystals (RC) are a special currency that players can amass mainly for dealing with Pawns in the game. Hiring a Pawn will cost a certain amount of Rift Crystals, depending on how developed they are and what Stats and Specialization they have. Players can see how much RC they have accumulated anytime from the Main Menu, at the top-right area of the screen.

The player can accumulate Rift Crystals by defeating certain Enemies and Bosses, opening Chests, and completing Quests. While the reward and loot notifications will not show them gaining RC, they can always quickly check through the main menu as well as the Riftstone menu how much RC they have amassed.

What are Pawn Quests in Dragon's Dogma 2

Pawn Quests are special tasks that allow you to gain rewards just for having Pawns in your party. While the player picks out Pawns and interacts with them, some of the things they'll be able to see on their Stats are whether or not they have Pawn Quests active, the reward for completing that Pawn Quest, and how to complete it.

Players can also send their own Main Pawns on Pawn Quests and set an item from their inventory as a reward for when other players complete it. This gives further incentive for all players to hire different Pawns in the game. Pawn Quests pave the way for obtaining Pawn Badges, so players are encouraged to use this feature often.
