Arisen in Dragon's Dogma 2 is a title given to the player character. The title is conferred upon as chosen by the Dragon, for one's notable courage and strength of will, usually through seeing if they are able to stand up against one during an outright attack. The Dragon takes and devours the chosen's heart, causing them to live once more with renewed vitality and unimaginable power. With these gifts, the Arisen seeks to unravel the mysteries surrounding their title, the politics of the world around him, the Dragon, and their own fate.

Dragon's Dogma 2 Arisen Guide

What is the Arisen in Dragon's Dogma 2?

Much like the previous game, the Arisen begins their journey as beckoned by a Dragon to find it and challenge it, as fate dictates. Not much is currently known about the context of the overarching world, but it's been revealed that players will begin the game in an underground prison. The outside world above seems to have numerous conflicts that the Arisen will have to resolve, such as the need for protection of Empress Nadinia, and the presence of someone masquerading as you, the Arisen. It is unclear if the Dragon is still Grigori from the first game, which would imply that the previous main character did not ascend to be the new Seneschal, leaving Grigori no choice but to assume his role of recruiting the next candidates as Arisen. Similarly, it is unclear how the sequel chronologically connects to the second game.

Nevertheless, the Arisen will have to rise to the Dragon's challenge and journey through the vibrant new world, filled with new and old enemies alike, to face their fate. To do so, we expect players to again be able to learn and improve upon their Vocations and Skills and make use of powerful Equipment. In this regard, there was one new wieldable weapon revealed in the trailer - a censer, as well as possible new Vocations or Skills that have power over the wind and gravity.

This page will be updated as more information about the Arisen is revealed. In the meantime, view our reveal impressions on the trailer for a sneak peek at the Arisen in Dragon's Dogma 2.

Character Creation in Dragon's Dogma 2

Will Character Creation be the same in Dragon's Dogma 2?

Much like in Dragon's Dogma, Dragon's Dogma 2 brings back the character customization for the Arisen as well as the Main Pawn. Character customization in Dragon's Dogma is highly detailed and adjustable, allowing players to create a unique avatar that fits their playstyle and preferences. Players can choose from a variety of attributes, an all new race called Beastren has been added into the character customization list. Beastren is a humanoid race with feline features, and has been shown in the Dragon's Dogma 2 trailer as well as the Capcom Showcase.

On top of appearances, players may choose their Vocations. It is revealed that players can choose from a variety of Vocations, on top of the already existing vocations from Dragon's Dogma, for their characters as well as their Pawns. This gives more room for playing around with the customization of characters and Pawns.

Will character height and weight affect gameplay in Dragon's Dogma 2?

Like many other games, Dragon's Dogma's character customization allows you to alter your Arisen's height and weight. Unlike many other games, your choice in the matter will affect your gameplay. In the first game, lighter characters would not be able to to carry as much weight as heavier characters and were more prone to knockbacks, but had faster climbing speeds and recovered stamina more quickly. Shorter characters on the other hand were slower and more prone to getting drenched when walking in water, but were able to access secret passageways that were too small for taller characters to fit through. It is possible that this mechanic will return to Dragon's Dogma 2.

Photorealism in Dragon's Dogma 2

Creating your character and Main Pawn in Dragon's Dogma 2 will be highly detailed with the upgraded photorealism captured by photogrammetry technology. This technology is also used in streamlining the character creation process by initially asking players to choose from a preset selection of faces, then recommending other potential faces that resemble the chosen face to get you closer to the look you have in mind.

Dragon's Dogma 2 Character Appearance

One of the main aspects of creating your Arisen is customizing their looks. Aside from the new Beastren race, players will get even more minute customization options and sliders than they did in the first game. In the early part of the game, you'll get to Character Creation. You'll first choose from a set of preset appearances to start with. Don't worry though, as you'll be able to completely change every detail if you want to. However, this will allow you to have an easier time getting to the appearance you want.

The first thing you'll be able to edit is your race, along with your gender. Again, this game does have the new Beastren race available to play as, so you can consider it when you make your character. From there, choose Detailed Customization to change specific details of your appearance.
