How to Use Oxcarts in Dragon's Dogma 2

To use Oxcarts to travel, you'll need to head to an Oxcart Station. Oxcarts travel at regular intervals throughout the day, so don't worry if there isn't one available when you get there. Simply look for the signpost in the station and interact with it to have your character wait for an Oxcart.

Once the Oxcart parks itself at the station, you can either talk to the one managing the station or head up the cart and sit on the spot with the red covering. The NPC in charge will tell you the destination for that particular Oxcart and how much it'll cost to ride it. Once you pay the fee, the trip will commence, however, if you and the NPC in charge share a bond, they can make the ride cheaper for you. Note that the animation can take really long, even just to prepare to depart, so you can click the button to 'Doze Off,' and skip the animation and arrive at your destination instantaneously.

When Should I Take An Oxcart in Dragon's Dogma 2?

Although taking oxcarts is quicker and more convenient, it is always recommended to walk and explore new areas first as you will encounter loot along the way, such as chests, Golden Trove Beetles, Seeker's Tokens, and other materials and items during your journey. If you take an oxcart to a new location, it will not uncover new areas on the map, which leads you to explore the area on foot. However, riding oxcarts to places you have already been to, taking an oxcart will definitely save you a lot of travel time.

When Can I Take An Oxcart in Dragon's Dogma 2?

Oxcarts are only available during the daytime. Otherwise, if there are no oxcarts parked at the station, you can wait by the oxcart station bell and hold the option to skip time and wait for the oxcart to arrive. In most cases, there is a bench nearby for you to sit on to pass the time as well. Oxcarts do not operate at night as there are stronger enemies that would raid your oxcart and destroy it if you don't defeat them before they destroy the oxcart.

What Happens If The Oxcart Gets Destroyed in Dragon's Dogma 2?

When you are on the Oxcart, sometimes your journey can be interrupted by enemies ambushing your cart which could lead to them destroying the Oxcart and killing the ox as well as the driver. If you are not successful in defeating all the enemies before they tear up the cart and kill the driver and the ox, you will have to continue your journey on foot and sadly, you do not get a refund for your ride.

How To Fix a Flipped Oxcart in Dragon's Dogma 2?

Large monsters may appear while you are on the Oxcart, sometimes it could overturn the cart completely. If you successfully defeat the large enemy, while the oxcart is not destroyed and everyone is safe, you can simply walk over to the oxcart and there will be an option to "Aid Oxcart" to flip it over. If you do not choose to doze off during your trip, you may be able to spot the monsters and lead them away from the cart and defeating them to keep the cart intact, then returning to the cart to continue your journey.

Oxcart Mechanism in Dragon's Dogma 2

Oxcarts only travel on a single path to their designated location, if an Oxcart is going to Vernworth from Melve, it will operate that way going back. Make sure to check the destination on the sign to see where the oxcart is headed, ensure you are going on the right path, and avoid wasting time going to the wrong location. Oxcarts can be paid a single journey fee upon getting on and would be cheaper if the travel is shorter as well as being friends with the NPC in charge. Some rides can take quite a while so even if you take the Oxcart in the day, you could reach your destination at night.

Can I Take an Oxcart While It's in Progress in Dragon's Dogma 2?

Oftentimes, you may see an Oxcart in the middle of its journey while you are exploring. You can take it midway through as long as you pay the price of the journey. Simply hop on and take a seat, the driver will stop the cart, tell you the destination, and will ask you to pay for the trip. This can also help save time for your travels if you miss an Oxcart in a known town and you happen to see one on its way to your designated location.

DD2 What Happens During Travel on an Oxcart

The new engine used for the game ensures that the environment and surroundings remain dynamic regardless of what the player chooses to do. Riding an Oxcart proves to be no different, as time continues to pass throughout the ride. Choosing to doze off will result in time skipping ahead - depending on when players start the ride, it may be nighttime already by the time they arrive at their destination. Oxcart rides can also be interrupted by ambushes by monsters or bandits and the like, resulting in a conflict that players will need to resolve in order to continue.

Fast Traveling in Dragon's Dogma 2

While it is recommended to travel on foot to explore the different areas on the map, sometimes traveling in between towns can take quite a while. Therefore, using an Oxcart will help bring you to the town you wish to go to, the ride animation takes a while which is why they have provided a "Doze Off" option to speed up the process. Other than that, you may use Ferrystones for a one-time use per Ferrystone, you may also use Portcrystals after finding them.

Dragon's Dogma 2 Day and Night Cycle

The dynamism of the game results in the perpetual passage of time, regardless of what the player is doing. This results in events happening, like Enemy encounters, NPC movements, and environmental changes in a 48-minute cycle. Some quests are also available at different times of the day, there are also some timed quests so you will need to keep track of your quests if you rest or travel for too long. This becomes increasingly important as the day turns to night, as the world of the game becomes exponentially more dangerous during nighttime. Oxcarts are not available at night for this reason, players will need to set up Camp first at a Campsite. Campsites can be found indicated on the map with a campfire icon with a fire over 3 logs or can be seen at night with a bright orange glow from the fire.

if your attacked in route and the carts destroyed but the driver lives you can talk to them to get a refund

Oxcarts seem to be attacked without fail for me, and the ensuing raised kill either the ox and/or the cart itself, forcing the player to continue the rest of the way on foot, or use Ferrystones.
