Vocations or Classes in Dragon's Dogma 2 are the many character classes the player can choose from. The Vocation or Class you choose for the Arisen or your Pawns dictates what Weapons and Skills they are able to use, as well as how their Stats increase per level up. In Dragon's Dogma, nine Vocations were available and sorted into 3 categories - Basic, Advanced, and Hybrid. The Advanced Vocations represented higher-level playstyles and capabilities that evolved from the Basic Vocations. Hybrid Vocations on the other hand are combinations of the playstyles of two Vocations, making for a playstyle that features the best of both worlds. This page will be updated as more information about Vocations is revealed. In the meantime, view our reveal impressions on the trailer for a sneak peek at the Vocations in Dragon's Dogma 2.

Dragon's Dogma 2 Classes (Vocations) Guide
What are the Vocations (Classes) in Dragon's Dogma 2?
Dragon's Dogma 2's players will have four to choose from to start with instead of three - Archer, Fighter, Mage, and Thief. The Strider Vocation in the previous game seems to have been split into the Archer and Thief, with the former adapting a mainly-ranged playstyle, while the latter focuses on quick melee hits. The Archer specializes in long-ranged attacks with the bow & arrow. The Fighter emphasizes fighting in melee combat, effective as an offensive unit with the sword, while also being able to protect the party with their shield. The Mage focuses on using magick to deal long-ranged magickal damage, as well as support other members of the party with buffs and heals. Finally, the Thief focuses on being nimble around the battlefield, overwhelming abilities with positional advantages along with quick speedy attacks with their daggers. Additionally, it has been confirmed that a new Vocation will be joining the selection, called the Mystic Spearhand. This Vocation highlights the use of both magic and physical melee attacks with a Duospear. The Magick Archer is set to also return from the previous game, which is a Vocation that highlights dealing damage from a distance with magickal arrows. These two Vocations were called "advanced" in the Tokyo Game Show reveal, but it's yet unclear if they will still be categorized as Hybrid Vocations, as their logos follow the same pattern as the previous game, or if they will now be under the Advanced Vocations category instead.
The gameplay clips seem to show other Vocations similar to the first, featuring the Warrior wielding a two-handed weapon, a Mystic Knight wielding the staple sword and shield combo, the Ranger wielding his trusty bow, and Vocations with purely magical capabilities, like the Mage or Sorcerer. A possible new vocation shown was one that wielded a censer as a weapon like a flail, seemingly also capable of magic to be able to create a transparent bridge over two disconnected platforms. Another new type of magic was shown capable of bending the laws of physics and forcing enemies afloat, only to blast them away the next moment.
What are Pawns in Dragon's Dogma 2
Pawns are extra NPC characters that can assist and join players in combat. These companions can join you throughout your adventure and are influenced by your different experiences as you progress through the game. Players will be able to customize and create their own personal Pawn. In addition to this, players will be able to hire 2 more pawns to complete a party of 4. These additional pawns are created by other players. This means the pawn that you create can also be hired by other players to join their party. These experiences they gain from traveling with other adventurers will improve their abilities to assist you in combat.
DD2 How to Gain New Vocations (Classes) and Skills
Vocation Maisters: On your travels, you will encounter vocation maisters who have mastered their chosen vocation to the fullest. By deepening your relationship with a vocation maister and gaining their approval, you can gain access to their vocation, or they may grant you special tomes that teach skills of the highest order, the “maister’s teachings”
Vocation (Classes) Skills and Stats Dragon's Dogma 2
Each Vocation or Class in the game will have its own set of Skills to eventually learn as the player levels up. Accompanying these is the growth of each Stat per level Both of these will lean into the playstyle that the Vocation offers. In the previous game, Skills are divided between Core Skills, Weapon Skills, and certain Augments that help exemplify the Vocation's playstyle. While it is yet uncertain if this categorization of Skills make a return in this sequel, it is clear that Vocations will have Skills that are unique to them.
Stat growth for each Vocation will also be unique. In the previous game, each Vocation will have the character's Stats grow per level in a way that reflects their playstyle. Since players were only allowed to switch from the Basic Vocations at level 10, the Stat growth effectively is different from level 1-10, and then from level 11 to the max level. As of now, it is still unclear if this system will be retained for this sequel game.
Classes & Vocations Combat Spotlight Impressions Dragon's Dogma 2
The Fighter Class DD2 Combat Overview
Their spotlight clip features the Fighter's swordsman skills and their ability to quickly shift targets and swap between offensive and defensive actions. Time your attacks to effectively leave a battle unscratched with your sword and shield skills despite being outnumbered. Characters of this class will be able to parry and counter their way out of sticky situations even with an aggressive head-on approach. During overwhelming combat encounters, they have great survivability once a player has mastered their strategy and timing. Players who choose to play as the Fighter must be aware of all incoming attacks to time their blocks and avoid damage to utilize the Fighter's tools as much as possible.
The Archer Class DD2 Combat Overview
This class boasts great mobility and nimble movement allowing them to move across the battle area while swiftly evading incoming attacks. This complements their ranged approach to combat allowing them to continue to attack and clear enemies from a distance while denying their advances. A skilled archer will be able to keep back the enemy front lines as one of the key offensive players. Their dynamic reach will be able to defend the party from enemies approaching from all heights making them a great support to the party's melee-centric members.
The Thief Class DD2 Combat Overview
The thief's special skills and strengths give him unique agility. His ability to cling to enemies gives this class an upper hand when facing larger opponents, positioning him at an optimum position to avoid hits while giving him an opening to attack from behind. The thief's movements are generally swift and quick allowing him to deliver quick blows and quickly evade incoming follow-up attacks. Their nimble nature makes them difficult to pin down making playing with them not only fun to play with, but also makes combat visually satisfying. Other than their combat abilities, these unique traits allow them the special skill of stealing from other NPCs and enemies.
The Mage Class DD2 Combat Overview
The Mage has a dynamic range of abilities, spells, and skills to support and benefit the entire party. When needed, they can become offensive assets and deal large-scale attacks. They are not usually positioned at the front lines but can clear out a horde of enemies from a distance with their magick. They are ideal support characters with a well-rounded set of abilities that can aid team members or grant buffs to give the team an advantage. They are better positioned behind the front lines as larger spells will take time to cast and they will need to be supported by the team or be extra strategic about where they stand in a COmbat area.
The Warrior Class DD2 Combat Overview
Warriors are great swordsmen much like Fighters, but they carry heavier weapons and can deal greater blows. They rely on heavy weapons and melee-focused combat, putting them on the front lines of battle. Their large sword swings can easily be utilized for crowd control with the ability to knock back or clear multiple enemies with one swing. With great timing, strategy, and position, Warriors can easily counterattack or charge up their attacks to deliver a powerful blow dealing great damage to large opponents and clearing out smaller enemies. On top of their great damaging abilities, their strength can easily stagger or knock down enemies giving your team free rein to charge in and attack.
The Sorcerer Class DD2 Combat Overview
Like the Mage, the sorcerer relies on magic and has access to a variety of spells dealt with a staff. These are specialized attacks that can take up a large area, devastating those caught within the Area of Effect. They more commonly larger spells making them great crowd-control characters, but will need to be strategic with positioning or extra support of the party to keep them safe for the duration of the spells they cast. These massive spells can topple over even the largest of foes and they can easily clear the battle area,
The Magick Archer Class DD2 Combat Overview
The Magick Archer is the perfect blend of the Archer and the Sorcerer or Mage. Their ranged attacks have extra added effects that give them a combo that almost always secures a direct hit. The combat feature showcases a number of homing attacks that can easily clear a hoard of enemies. Their ranged abilities vary and can take up the battle area while sacrificing some of the HP. This makes them a high-risk high-reward character and will need to be strategic with the combat approach. Though they are great offensive assets to the team, they are also great support with their access to supportive abilities that can provide additional advantages to the team. When using the Magick Archer it's best to get a hang of repositioning yourself throughout combat to allow yourself space to charge up your attacks to enhance their effects and take control of the fight.
The Mystic Spearhand Class DD2 Combat Overview
The Mystic Spearhand is one of the more versatile Vocations in Dragon's Dogma 2, utilizing both their Dupsear weapon that can be used for melee combat and the ability to lace their attacks with magick. This makes for visually appealing attack combinations and sequences as both types of attack styles can be used together seamlessly to trigger unique combat interactions. Players will need to find the right balance when playing with the abilities of the Mystic Spearhand. Take advantage of all the available magick abilities and combine them with regular attack combos to maximize effects. Players can utilize magick that can paralyze or make use of items in the battle area environment to widen attack windows and gain a better attack position in between switching to melee combat.
What We Know About The New Vocations (Classes) in Dragon's Dogma 2
DD2 Trickster Vocation
Vocation in Dragon's Dogma 2 is a legacy feature from the Original Game. This is an advanced system that allows players to carve their path and choose from pre-determined classes that will dictate their playstyle, combat abilities, and strategies. Below, you will find details on the newest vocation in Dragon's Dogma 2, the Trickster. The concept behind this vocation is to introduce an Arisen-exclusive class focused on dealing damage without actually dealing damage.
How Does The Trickster Work In Combat?
The Trickster can pull off this type of attack by using the Ceremonial Censer, a new weapon exclusive to the class. When swung, the Censer barely deals any physical damage but produces smoke in a small area. We don't know the full details yet but the smoke appears to provide cover for the Trickster and prompts the enemies to follow the trail of smoke. From what we have seen in the videos, the Trickster will cast a spell creating a clone for enemies to attack, or the smoke can be used to confuse enemies into fighting among themselves.
Dragon's Dogma 2 Trickster Gameplay and Combat Details
This clone or smoke illusions will disappear once its health bar is depleted, but with the Trickster skills, they can also transport that clone near them to take it out of the fight. Down the line, Trickster will learn skills that will allow them to create surfaces and environment that will appear real to enemies and will trick them into possibly falling into pits or a wall of smoke that only you can see through. Trickster, by far, is one of the unique classes that we have seen in an RPG-setting ever.
One of the difficulties we can see this vocation will be facing is dealing enough damage to enemies. While the aerial combat and environment interaction has been improved since the original game, the Trickster feels like it may not deal enough damage to tankier and stronger foes compared to other existing Vocations, especially when up against Bosses like in Everfall. We are excited to see what changes to party composition will look like if players decide to test out the Trickster or how it will pan out in the Endgame.
While we don't fully know yet the mechanics of how the Trickster will work in Dragon's Dogma combat, we already know that this vocation will inspire players to test the environment and combat in ways that we never would have expected!
DD 2: Mystic Spearhand Vocation
The Mystic Spearhand vocation is the melee counterpart to the Magick Archer, of some sort. If you have played the original game Dragon's Dogma, then you may have come across the ranged Magick Archer that excels in ranged combat with its magic-imbued arrows. On the other hand, the Mystic Spearhand is a new vocation exclusive only to the Arisen, capable of both melee and magic attacks. From what we know, this is an Advanced Vocation, if the game follows the same system as the original game, this vocation becomes available later on as you progress, like choosing your Vocation path.
How Does The Mystic Spearhand Work In Combat?
Along with a new vocation, the Mystic Spearhand wields a new exclusive weapon available only to their class, called Duospear. This weapon is capable of handling enemies in close combat by physically attacking them with the dual-ended spear. One of the moves that we have seen from this Vocation is a spear spin where it damages nearby enemies surrounding them as they handle the weapon.
Dragon's Dogma 2 Mystic Spearhand Gameplay and Combat Details
Aside from its physical damage, the Mystic Spearhand can also utilize Magick. As the vocation progresses, a Mystic Spearhand can learn spells that can paralyze enemies, pick them up, and throw them at another enemy to deal damage. This vocation also showed mobility skills like a blink strike where they moved instantly to the direction of the enemy to attack them. Although not yet confirmed, the Mystic Spearhand attacks appear to have a lightning effect on them. The Mystic Spearhand is a perfect playstyle for those who prefer flashy attacks and having the ability to move in and out of fights.
How to Play the Mystic Spearhand in Dragon's Dogma 2
The Mystic Spearhand looks like a Vocation that can take on a lot of fights. This is perfect for when you are fighting mobs of enemies and can even stand up to bosses. The well-balanced Mystic Spearhand will work excellently with support roles from their Pawns as we can see that this Vocation can effectively damage and neutralize enemies from any range.
DD 2: Warfarer Vocation
The Warfarer is an advanced vocation that acts as a Jack of all trades. First of all, it is able to wield all types of weaponry, giving it ample of experimentation regarding their builds and loadouts. This gives players a vast amount of customization when selecting a Warfarer. The Warfarer is a new Vocation in Dragon's Dogma 2, and was not available in the previous game. Only the Arisen ir capable of choosing the Warfarer.
How Does The Warfarer Work In Combat?
The Warfarer, as previously mentioned, is capable of using all available weapon types in the game. This makes adaptability its most important ability. It can switch on the go to a different weapon to adjust to different combat scenarios or combat phases.
Dragon's Dogma 2 Warfarer Gameplay and Combat Details
The Warfarer can fullfil many roles in the battlefield given its ability to wield all the weapon types available in the game. Players will have to read the battlefiled, and learn what is the most benefitial option for them to switch to. They can switch from dealing massive damage with greatswords, to getting far away and use a ranged weapon to inflict damage from safety., or land quick hits with daggers.
How to Play the Warfarer in Dragon's Dogma 2
Given the nature of the Warfarer and its intrinsec ability to wield all types of weapons, its style of play may vary greatly depending on the weapon types used by the player. This is the Warfarer's biggest asset, being able to adapt to what the situation demands, being able to deal damage at any range. The catch to this Vocations huge roster of tools is that its stats and general power are lower than an arisen fully focused on a single class, to make the most of its versatility and keep up with the dps of the other vocations the player will have to utilize the singular strengths of each weapon at its fullest so you should expect a complex class with a high skill ceiling.

not stoked that they separated thief and archer. The best part about DD1 assassin was the seamlessness between bow and daggers while dodge rolling and animation canceling at will

We could have a druid vocation with powers from plants and animals.
A bard would be cool.
Using songs to buff and debuff.

i think it needs to be updated...i believe warrior and sorceror are base vocations
Have been waiting for a bare hand martial artist vocation for around 10+ years and even after the sucsess of SF6 there is nowhere to be found. Instead there is this shitty trickster that nobody uses.
