Side Quests are Quests in Dragon's Dogma 2 that are optional as opposed to Main Quests. Completing them will grant various rewards that can aid the player throughout their journey including gold, Items, and Equipment. Unlike Main QuestsSide Quests don't automatically begin and will entail initiating them through talking to NPCs, or by simply going to certain areas. Players can opt to stop progressing the game's story through the Main Quests temporarily and instead use Side Quests to progress their characters and Pawns. In the previous game, Quests were split into 3 main categories - Main QuestsSide Quests, and Notice Board Quests. After completing certain Main Quests, several changes in the world would trigger including an increase in merchant stock and the availability of various Side Quests.

What are Side Quests in Dragon's Dogma 2

Side Quests are optional Quests in the game, which the players can choose to accomplish or ignore. They have no bearing on the progression of the game's story. That being said, Side Quests often have their own little side stories that the player can enjoy, which enhances the game's world-building, and the appreciate for the game's lore overall, especially when it comes to the different characters, settings, and locations in the game. Side Quests can ask you to do a variety of things, from retrieving or acquiring items for the NPC to defeating or clearing out Enemies.

While Side Quests may not affect the game's Main Quests much, the opposite can be true - Main Quests may cause certain things in the world of the game to change, even if only temporarily. This ranges from entire locations, spawn-points of some Enemies, and even the availability of some NPCs that may be integral to the Side Quest. Due to this, some Side Quests may end up missable so players should choose wisely whenever they progress Main Quests with unaccomplished Side Quests in their list. New Side Quests started will pop up on the top left area of the screen.

How to Start Side Quests in Dragon's Dogma 2

Side Quests are acquired usually by speaking to NPCs as you explore the many areas of the game. As you go through Main Quests, you could also encounter some new Side Quests that you can accomplish near the area, or that have something to do with the circumstances of the Main Quest. As said previously, often times these Side Quests will have their own side stories that concern the relevant NPCs. As you explore the open world of the game, some Side Quests may also automatically start as you come across certain situations.

This makes the Day and Night Cycle play an important role in starting or progressing Side Quests, as some NPCs or some areas may only be accessible during the day or during the night. Pawns that you've employed from Riftstones may already have knowledge of Side Quests and may notify you and lead you to them while you're out exploring. They can also help with specific objectives of a Side Quest which may be a bit difficult to accomplish or find.

What are the Rewards for Side Quests in DD2

As the type of tasks that players have to carry out for Side Quests will vary, so will the rewards that players can get from completing them. Like Main Quests, completing Side Quests can grant the player XP but not all of them do, so players have to keep that in mind in case they plan on grinding Side Quests for levels.

Side Quests will grant a variety of different Items and Equipment, often ones that have something to do with the nature of the task, or the role of the NPC (i.e. a Blacksmith, produce vendor, etc.). Rewards will not be shown on the Quest tab in the menu. Once you complete a Side Quest, the rewards you've gained will pop up on the righthand side of the screen.

How Does the Day and Night Cycle Work in DD2

The dynamism of the game results in the perpetual passage of time, regardless of what the player is doing. This results in events happening, like Enemy encounters, NPC movements, and environmental changes in real-time. This becomes increasingly important as the day turns to night, as the world of the game becomes exponentially more dangerous during nighttime. To avoid the dangers of traveling at night, or to be able to easily access certain aspects of the game that are available during the day, players can decide to set up camp first at a Campsite. Some NPCs and Enemies might only be available at certain times, which can also mean that some Quests or some objectives for Quests might only be available at certain times.

Pawns, depending on their personality traits, might offer you information on certain aspects of your Side Quests if you ever get stuck, possibly even because of the Day and Night Cycle.

What are Pawns in Dragon's Dogma 2

Pawns make a return in Dragon's Dogma 2, with what seems like the same capabilities and functions as the previous game. Pawns are loyal beings from another realm lacking emotions and independence who exist solely to serve the Arisen. Each Pawn is different in the knowledge they've collected. As you explore, the Pawns that accompany you can help point you to Side Quests or guide you through Side Quest objectives if they have knowledge of them.

Aside from that, Pawns now have specializations that give them a unique feature. For example, one of these new specializations is the ability to translate Elvish. If there is a Pawn that understands Elvish is nearby, it will automatically interpret the language for you to understand. This may turn out incredibly useful for your Side Quests, so make sure that your Pawns have a good variety of specializations.
