A Noble Exchange is a Quest for Dragon's Dogma 2 (DD2). A Noble Exchange is affected by the passage of time. During this quest, you will participate in a gift exchange inside Vernworth Hall where all guests will go around receiving and giving gifts. The celebration will be disrupted by the guards after announcing that there's a missing artifact and the thief is believed to be inside the hall.

It seems that the masquerade held this day is no ordinary event, but an occasion of gift-giving. You yourself have received a gift, in the form of a finely wrought staff.

How to Unlock A Noble Exchange Quest in Dragon's Dogma 2

To unlock this quest, players must progress the story by completing the main quest "Feast of Deception" You need to equip the following gear (Courtly Breeches, Courtly Tunic, and Eventide Mask) and attend the masquerade ball in Vernworth Hall that is held at night. One of the masked guests will approach and give you a staff. See A Noble Exchange on the [Dragon's Dogma 2 Map].

Dragon's Dogma 2 A Noble Exchange Quest Walkthrough

Exchange Gifts

A Noble Exchange quest becomes available through story progression. Based on our experience, the quest became available after completing the main quest "Feast of Deception". This side quest can be picked up from an NPC at the Vernworth Hall during the masquerade ball that only happens at night [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map]. To participate in the masquerade ball, you must wear an appropriate outfit which consists of the following pieces: Courtly BreechesCourtly Tunic, and Eventide Mask.

Head to the ball, approach the guests, and wait until one of them, a gentleman, speaks to you. He'll start with a dialogue saying "Well, now... Is that the Arisen I espy?" and advise you about how the participants hand out gifts. REMEMBER THIS MAN, THE QUEST-GIVER. He wears a red cape, slicked-back hair, and a black mask with gold embellishments. Approach the other nobles and they will give you random items as gifts. You don't need to give them anything.

Outcome 1: Discard the Staff and Apprehend the Thief

BEST OUTCOME: Shortly after, one of the guards will stop the event and announce that an item has been stolen by a thief who is among the attendees. At this point, you will have different outcomes depending on how you approach the situation. The best outcome for this walkthrough is getting rid of the staff before apprehending the thief, which is the man who spoke to you first and gave the staff. To safely discard the staff, check behind the hall and enter the small room on the right (Refer to the visual aid). Go behind the screen divided and drop the staff next to the chest.

Head back to the hall and be ready to tackle the thief. Once you pin him to the ground, Gunther will confess and the scene will transition to the gaol. The guard will thank you for helping and you'll be rewarded with 900 XP and 7500 G. Since you discarded the staff before apprehending the thief, if you wait after a few days, you can find the Paragon Staff and buy it back from Ibrahim's Scrap Store in Checkpoint Rest Town.

Outcome 2: Apprehend the Thief while you have the Staff

For this outcome, once the guards conduct an inspection, grab the thief while you have the Paragon Staff in your inventory. You will still be rewarded a small amount of gold but you'll lose the staff and won't be able to buy it back from Ibrahim's Scrap Store in Checkpoint Rest Town.

Outcome 3: Discard the Staff and Clear Yourself of Suspicion

For this outcome, discard the staff in the room that we mentioned and exit the hall. The guards will check you and clear you of suspicion, which ends the quest. Since you discarded the staff, you can buy it back from Ibrahim's Scrap Store in Checkpoint Rest Town, however, you won't get any gold or the maximum gold reward for completing this quest.

Outcome 4: You were caught with the staff

This outcome is pretty much straightforward and many factors can be considered. One of them is that you leave the hall with the staff in your inventory or you try to escape and caught by the guards. This is the worst outcome of the quest as you won't receive any gold and you'll be sent to the gaol.

DD2 A Noble Exchange Quest Objectives

  • Exchange gifts
  • Clear yourself of suspicion

A Noble Exchange Quest Rewards in Dragon's Dogma 2

Grab the culprit who gave you the staff:

It seems you cannot afford to let down your guard for even a moment when visiting the palace, given the many schemes at work within its walls. This one sought to pin you with the theft of a priceless artifact, but you saw it foiled by identifying the true culprit. The thief was not acting alone, however, and as he has chosen to take the fall rather than reveal the mastermind, you can only guess at whose orders he was following. Only one thing is certain: while you may have foiled this attempt to entrap you, there is no telling what other plots may lie in wait.

You were caught with the staff:

It seems you cannot afford to let down your guard for even a moment when visiting the palace, on account of the many schemes at work within its walls. This one saw you pinned with the theft of a priceless artifact, greatly tarnishing your reputation with the nobility. You will have to tread more carefully, for who knows what other plots have been arranged to entrap you.

You fled the scene:

It seems you cannot afford to let down your guard for even a moment when visiting the palace, given the many schemes at work within its walls. This one sought to pin you with the theft of a priceless artifact, but you managed to flee the scene before suspicion could be cast your way. Still, though you may have foiled one attempt to entrap you, there is no telling what other plots may lie in wait.

Get rid of the staff:

It seems you cannot afford to let down your guard for even a moment when visiting the palace, given the many schemes at work within its walls. This one sought to pin you with the theft of a priceless artifact, but you managed to rid yourself of the item before suspicion could be cast your way. Still, though you may have foiled one attempt to entrap you, there is no telling what other plots may lie in wait.

Get rid of the staff - A Noble Exchange Rewards:

  • 900 XP
  • 3,000 G

Discarded the Staff and Apprehended the Thief - A Noble Exchange Rewards:

This is wrong, the best outcome is to carry your pawn to the hall with you (make sure you set them down mid way so they don’t struggle out of your hands if need be) carry them inside and you will get the dialogue prompt and get the staff, put the staff in your pawns inventory (your pawn will either stay at the ball and walk around like an attendee or run out) once the prompt to catch the thief comes up tackle him, at the end when you’re standing by the goal it will say you discarded the staff, it will however be in your pawns inventory, you can then leave and summon your pawn to you getting he staff for free.

I don't know why you would want to buy the staff back from the Ibrahim like the guide suggests, it's 60k gold and the staff doesn't do anything.

Thought I also add this in since this is what happens after the quest. There's a knight outside near the entrance to the masquerade party. He's looking for the paragon staff from when you did the quest "A Noble Exchange." If you give him the real one he will give you the Platinum card, but if you decide to give him the fake he gives you 3k gold. It cost more to create the replica so not really worth it especially if you can steal it. Unless you plan on selling the Platinum card or use it.

There's a 5th option in completing this quest. You carry your pawn into the masquerade, talk to the guy who gives you the Paragon staff then you put the Paragon staff in your pawn. Continue on with the quest by detaining the thief getting the reward completing the quest and keeping the Paragon staff in your pawn thus the biggest reward. Paragon staff is worth 12,000 if you guy's are wondering. Heard buying it from the scrapper is around 60,000.

I don't think you are supposed to discard the staff. Lost quest items automatically go to Ibrahim, but there is no point buying it back for 60k. Just finish the quest the normal way and get your reward

I went around the perimeter of the room talking to NPCs until I found one that let me still gift to them. I have it to them, and I was cleared of suspicion. However, that NPC didn't get in trouble.
