Ordeals of a New Recruit is a Quest for Dragon's Dogma 2 (DD2). Ordeals of a New Recruit is affected by the passage of time and involves finding and helping a new recruit named Accardo who was sent to an area where harpies flock.
To a monster, new recruits are simply easy pickings. As such, sending an untrained soldier into the heart of a harpy flock was probably not the wisest choice.
How to Unlock Ordeals of a New Recruit Quest in Dragon's Dogma 2
You can obtain this quest by talking to an NPC named Phill by the main gate of the Borderwatch Outpost. You reach this location early in the game. First, you need to trigger Tale's Beginning where one of the guards inside the Borderwatch Outpost will advise you to rest for the evening and head for the lodgings. Dragon's Dogma 2 Ordeals of a New Recruit Quest Walkthrough
Aid Accardo
After getting the quest from Phill, exit through the gate behind him. You will be walking towards Northern Vermund/Base of Mt. Alles as the distant town comes into view. You will come across Goblins in this area so always be on watch for them, they shouldn't pose a lot of danger so handling them will not be a problem. Stay on the dirt path which leads to the marked location on your right.
As you get near the area, you will see the blue aura engulfing the area with tall and thick trees. The songs of the harpy can be heard and there are about 3 harpies who are attacking Accardo. These creatures like to remain flying so make use of ranged attacks like a Bow and Arrow to take them down. They will likely fall after getting hit and this will give you a chance to attack them with melee weapons. After clearing all of the harpies, Accardo comes out of hiding and thanks you for saving him.
Report back to Phill
When you're done playing the cutscene, return to Phill in Borderwatch Outpost to report Accardo's safe return. Trace your steps back from where you started and you will get the rewards for Ordeals of a New Recruit after talking to Phill.
