Dragon's Dogma 2 A Trial of Archery Quest Walkthrough

Save Glyndwr's sister, Doireann

After reaching the Arborist's Home where the Trial of Archery was supposed to take place, Glyndwr notices the absence of the custodians, who are always on their posts. Glyndwr ponders on the thought that something is amiss and soon after, his father, Taliesin, appears to inform him that the trial is suspended after they learn of Doireann's abduction by an Ogre. The custodians were all sent after Doireann while the rest are to remain in Sacred Arbor.

Glyndwr worries for his sister and will ask for your help despite being instructed by his father that those who haven't completed the Trial of Archery are to remain behind. Doireann's location will be marked on your map and can be found east of Sacred Arbor. To reach your objective, return to Malachite Forest where you entered Sacred Arbor, and follow the path to the east. This location is fairly near and would take about a minute to get there. Once you reach the cliff area where you're way too high for the marked location (don't jump down!), look for the massive tree with a tunnel-like passage underneath and follow the white-painted standing torches. Use the wooden bridge that will take you to the lower area.

You will find Glyndwr waiting for you with the others at the marked location. Glyndwr is going to get a mouthful for disobeying his father's order and he will insist that he should be there for his sister. After the cutscene plays, go to the entrance of the Ancestral Chamber. From here, the path is linear and can be navigated easily. However, the path is filled with enemies so you must eliminate them as you go through each area. If you ever lose your way, look around for the white-painted torches, as these serve as your guide to get to the marked location.

After reaching this path with a large doorway, turn to the right side and navigate to the corner to obtain the Ring of Percipience from a chest. Then, explore the other path to your left, which leads to Doireann's location, and starts the battle with the Ogre. Wait for Glyndwr to fire his arrow and then approach the Ogre as it drops Doireann to the ground. Your objective here is to carry Doireann to safety before engaging in combat. Press RT while facing Doireann to grab her, walk away from the fight to drop her at a safe area, and then come back to defeat the Ogre.

Outcome 1: You saved Doireann

After defeating the Ogre, pick up Doireann on your way to exit the Ancestral Chamber. As Glyndwr leads the way, he will demonstrate his form and bow once more. His father, Taliesin notices that he carries a different bow and yet, his form has changed drastically and even allowed him to land an arrow on the Ogre at a great distance. He will commend Glynwr's improvements and thank the Arisen for introducing such a weapon to him. After this, Glyndwr will tell you to speak with his father later if you are keen on learning archery.

Taliesin's location is marked on your map. They are walking back to their home now that they have secured Doireann. Once you catch up to him, he will thank you for giving the weapon to Glyndwr and how it has helped save his daughter. He imparts his gratitude to you and he will reward you handsomely. After this short conversation, A Trial of Archery will be marked as completed.

NOTE: Make sure you speak to Taliesin after completing the quest to acquire the Hunter's Secret item that unlocks the Heavenly Shot Archer Skill for yourself and your main pawn.

Outcome 2: You failed to save Doireann

The Walkthrough for this outcome is a work in progress. If the details are available, please feel free to add them here.

A Trial of Archery Quest Rewards in Dragon's Dogma 2

This Quest has multiple Outcomes. You failed to save Doireann:

Glyndwr hastened bravely to his sister's aid, but like a young branch stretching forth at the height of spring, only to be snapped in twain by the first breath of the storm that howls through the forest, he proved unequal to the trial, and Doireann was lost. Bent with grief at her tragic demise and abject in his failure, it seems little hope remains of Glyndwr finding his feet.

You saved Doireann:

Glyndwr's arrow found its mark, releasing Doireann from the ogre's clutches. This was no small feat—one that even elves who had passed their Trials did not dare attempt—and not only did it prove his mastery of the bow, but it saved his sister's life. The Trial that once seemed an insurmountable challenge will no doubt be a trice for Glyndwr now that he has awoken to his talent; but was it the bow you gifted him that instilled him with this newfound confidence, or concern for his sister—or something more complex?

So I deliberately tried to get Doireann killed for an alternate quest outcome. The thing is, the Ogre didn't kill her or do any damage, only slobbered her a bit. So I took it upon myself to kill her, THEN kill the ogre. THEN I carried her dead body outside. The game told me I saved her. Her brother also shot the rock, happily declared we have an exit, left together and finally I got the pop-up that I failed to save her. Glyndwn was upset, said he failed and that he wouldn't amount to anything and decided to give up archery and leave. After that, the quest concluded, I got the bow and arrow, Glyn stood around and his father became hostile and drop-kicked me.
After I ran and rested, I returned the next morning. Glyn was gone, the father was there (no longer hostile) and thanked me for helping his son. Doireann's body disappeared the moment I left the cave, so I also couldn't resurrect her (though I could do so during battle).

All in all, it seems that I ended up triggering both flags here, even though the ultimate outcome was the failure to save one.

I carried out Doireann after defeating the ogre, but got the "she died" ending with the rewards (port crystal, repeller bow). This game's so glitchy.

was on the way to harbor with glyndwr but lost him before arriving there, now he is nowhere to be found, any help?

          • Anonymous

If father ran away after saving her wait few days, went to sacred arbor and back, he was standing at the marker at daytime

What a badly implemented quest. Carry her to safety means carry her half way across the world map, apparently, while elf-dad and useless elfbro pretends (i.e. stand there with nocked arrows doing nothing) to fight the ogre and pawns instantly forget how to fight Ogres (nevermind the 6 ones we killed with ease before getting to this spot). No way to use a heartstone either.

Note: Hunter's secrets unlocked for me after doing another errand with elf daddy.
After successful completion of "A trial of archery", we rested till the morrow when he tasked us with escorting him back to the Ruin of the trial. We fell a beast together.
I went back to him where he would grant us the scroll.

Put Doireann in the little stone alcove with the door to the right of the area where the ogre is to keep her safe while I killed the ogre. The ogre kept trying to path to her and died in the stairway down and completely blocked it. Basically the ogre's dead body softlocked this quest.

So I spoke to Taliesin after the leaving the cave (saved daughter and quest complete) and he gave me the money and the bow. Talked to him again and never got the hunters secret. Any ideas what I can do?

After the quest finished I talked to the father and he gave me the Hunters Secret item, but when I checked my inventory it was gone. Checked all my pawns and my storage and it's as if it never entered my inventory. I also checked the vocation guild and the skill wasn't unlocked.

Did this quest. Defeated the ogre, and in the middle of carrying his sister out he just randomly says he had failed, and his sister had died?... I'm so confused

Doireann just disappeared out of nowhere, now the npc's are stuck and won't move. I checked if she was dead too and she wasn't :/

Glyndwr died in mine and I failed the chest even after reviving him. I really don’t want to start my playthrough over again but this sucks :/

I have a bug where the quest marker is still on the campfire by the ruins before sacred harbor. and Glyndwr is nowhere to be found

After defeating the ogre and getting the cutscene, Taliesin just seems to have vanished from the game. My quest marker is still on Glyndwr, but just tells me to speak to his father.
