Readvent of Calamity is a Quest for Dragon's Dogma 2 (DD2). The Readvent of Calamity is affected by the passage of time. When you visit Melve a few days after completing Seat of the Sovran and Scaly Invaders, a cutscene shows a dragon attacking the village. Hurry to repel the dragon before it flees.
To suffer the dragon's attack once is a nightmare. To suffer it twice is nothing short of ill luck—and it seems Melve's fortunes are determined not to turn.
How to Unlock Readvent of Calamity Quest in Dragon's Dogma 2
This quest requires traveling to Melve at least twice and completing Seat of the Sovran and progressing Scaly Invaders. As you return to Melve, you will see a dragon attacking the town once again. See Readvent of Calamity on the [Dragon's Dogma 2 Map].
Dragon's Dogma 2 Readvent of Calamity Quest Notes & Tips
- This quest does not unlock any other quest
- This quest does not have multiple outcomes.
- This quest requires Seat of the Sovran, Scaly Invaders, and have visited Melve at least twice for this quest to start.
- This quest is discontinued if you don't finish it before the coronation quest, Feast of Deception, locking you out of any further quests in this questline.
- Some players have noted that Ulrika must be found first before progressing Scaly Invaders. This means that you must have progressed the first culling in Scaly Invaders but haven't fully completed it as the quest requires you to return to the area after the first part.
- Others have reported that Monster Culling (a quest from Brant) must be completed first and wait for a few days to visit Melve. This should trigger the dragon attack.
Dragon's Dogma 2 Readvent of Calamity Quest Walkthrough
Repel the dragon
This quest starts after returning to Melve a few days after you have completed Seat of the Sovran and the Scaly Invaders. During our playthrough, we took the Oxcart from Vernworth to the village, and upon arriving, we saw a dragon attacking the town. Many of the townspeople are joining the fight to repel this dragon. Hurry to help Ulrika and the rest of the villagers before it flees.
The dragon has red bubbles on its body, particularly, the legs and neck areas. When hit, the dragon receives substantial damage, and breaking multiple of them will apply a stagger and possibly knock the dragon down. While knocked down, the dragon will lay on its side and you can land heavy attacks on its head or cast powerful spells to maximize your damage.
Once the dragon's health drops to the 3rd bar, it will fly away and leave Melve for now. After the cutscene ends, you will be confronted by Ulrika, as she demands to reveal yourself to her. She will be thankful for your help and the man in red, and Lennart will butt in to ask Ulrika to return to the village as the townspeople are looking for her.
NOTE: There's an NPC named Sigurd that you can talk to in this area to unlock Mystic Spearhand. He will be shown for a brief moment while Ulrika extends her gratitude to both of you. In some cases, this dialogue will be automatically triggered. If not, just approach him and greet Sigurd. If you fell the dragon he will give you the reward Paladins Enigmata.
Alternate: Fell The Dragon
After the dragon's attack, a cut scene plays out. Run up to the watch tower and bring your pawns with the "To me" order. Once atop the tower engage the ballista. As you load it your pawns will come to your aid momentarily to move it. Carefully aim for the center chest of the dragon. I accomplished the kill by aiming above the stone arch near the middle of its raised wings if grounded.
If the dragon attempts to fly off it will first raise off the ground. You have approximately 3 wing beats before it flies off to hit it with a ballista bolt. (2 attempts).
If successful Sigurd rewards you with the master teaching scroll as if you would slay the dragon later on. I also looted the weapon Dead Ringer (please confirm if guaranteed from this dragon or from this kill method).
Visit Melve from time to time
After completing this, your next objective is to visit Melve now and then to check how things are faring after the dragon attack. You can travel to other towns and do other quests in the meantime. When you return, visit Ulrika's House to find her in a conversation with a man named Martin. He is delivering news from the Queen Regent and accuses Ulrika of treason. After that, she will ask you to stay the night.
If you alternatively Felled the dragon Martin will accuse ultimately of submitting a false report with alternative dialogue: "yet not only has the dragon been allowed to devastate the village, but in the wake of its attack you dared to submit what are clearly false reports of having failed the beast." "none save the Sovran can fell the dragon." Perchance you mistook an overgrown way even for the bringer of calamity". "The fault here lies with you, Ser Ulrika. You have failed in your duty as acting chief".
The following morning, Ulrika is nowhere to be found in her house. As you exit the premises, the man whom Ulrika was talking to before demands to find Ulrika, while Lennart stands behind him. Lennart announces that Ulrika has left in the dead of night, along with witnesses who can confirm it. Due to the absence of a leader, Martin will appoint themselves (a representative of the Queen Regent) as the village's leader.
Once Martin leaves, Lennart will approach you to inform you what he knows about Ulrika. He believes that she hasn't truly abandoned the village and yet, he fears that it will be unwise for him to look for her, as he might draw suspicion from the troops. He asks that you inform him of Ulrika's well-being should you find her.
Find Ulrika and report to Lennart
Lennart believes that Ulrika may have left town to hunt the dragon. He wants you to look for her and while you don't have a marked objective for this quest, you will find Ulrika at the Harve Village, found southwest of Melve. If you haven't completed Trouble on the Cape, this quest will be triggered upon arriving at the location. After the quest, speak to Ulrika to progress this quest.
Once you have learned about Ulrika's situation, return to Lennart in Melve, and inform him that Ulrika has taken up residence in Harve Village. The quest Readvent of Calamity will be marked as completed after this short conversation.

- Visit Melve from time to time
- Find Ulrika
- Inform Lennart of Ulrika's wellbeing

You reported back to Lennart:
By virtue of its location, Melve has long served as the threshold of Vermund's defense against the dragon. Yet though a humble village can hardly be expected to repel such a beast without aid, the envoy from the capital bore not reinforcements, but accusations. It seems the queen regent intends to gain control of Melve by any means, leaving its leader, Ulrika, with little choice but to flee to protect her fellow villagers.
You reported back to Lennart - Readvent of Calamity Rewards:
- 2,000 XP
- Ring of Grit
- 4,500 G

Got this quest without touching scaly invaders at all, I simply went to Melve after Brant brought up checking in on it after giving him the Battahli-Crested Letter

If anyone having trouble triggering this quest, need to completed both Monster Culling (after report back to Brant) and Scaly invaders then only this quest will triggered when you return to Melve.
- Anonymous
Can confirm I also received the dead ringer from a drop, after felling the dragon in melve

I've tested this (since I have a bad habit of starting games over and over), the trigger is returning once to Melve any time after meeting Bandt AND then doing the Harve portion of Brandts monster culling quest, you don't have to finish all of monster culling. Starting but not finishing scaly invaders and then doing the quests up until Ulrika leaves Melve will have her appear in Havre and lead the rescue mission in the second half of Scaly invaders while asking you for help (this then is what gets her appointed village leader afterwards).

Killed Martin( he's an A**hole) quest didn't trigger, revived(to my dismay) then it did.
Long and short of it, Martin can't be fed to the brine to continue quest (sadly)

I think you just have to complete any of brants first three missions then return to melve. To start the quest. To get it to progress you have to clear harve to get Ulrika to leave melve.

"(please confirm if guaranteed from this dragon or from this kill method)"
Killed it in NG+ on the ground in the plaza and it dropped it too.

It’s important that she is in Harve before the next quest in Harve, it changes the outcome

Wow. Not even a bloody hint or line of dialogue suggesting Harve. She's just halfway across the map and you find her when you happen to go there. What an awful quest.

Seat of the Sovran is definitely not needed. I've done this quest, and the followup in the tower in Battahl before doing Seat.

Who is writing these wiki pages?!
This page states that 'Scaly Invaders' is a prerequisite for 'Readvent of Calamity' and 'Feast of Deception' locks you out.
'Scaly Invaders' page states that 'Feast of Deception' is a prerequisite to complete 'Scaly Invaders'.
THAT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!!

marked as discontinued in ky quest log, even though Ulrika is the chief of Harve already????????? super pissed about this, as i can't to Home is where the Hearth is without this.

You need to finish the quest "Monster Culling" from the guard Captain in the bar / inn. Then timeskip 1-3 days.

I can confirm that killing the dragon will guarantee you loot dead ringer a mystic spearhand weapon.

For anyone that didn't have the dragon attack Melve after following this guide, try completing the "Monster Culling" quest. It seems to also be a requirement.

Not sure if it's a random occurrence after doing the 2 pre-reqs, but I have yet to trigger this quest after doing both pre-reqs and visiting Melve at least 5 times since.
It is possible that it becomes unavailable if you don't start it before going into Battahl.

I can't find Ulrika at Harve Village, I've checked day and night several times, and I've also checked the morgue. I've saved and reloaded the game but to no avail. I've spoken to Sigurd, but Ulrika isn't present and I've checked Harve quite thoroughly. Any advice?
- Anonymous
Not triggering. I did the needed quests but the dragon doesn't spawn and Sigurd is in Battahl.

not triggering. Well into the game as well. At desert area. Good job Capcom. best quests in ARPG.

There's a bug related to this quest. I've done everything listed in the requirements, yet every time I go to Merve there's no change, no dragon, no quest. No clue what's keeping it from happening. Both quests are in my completed log. I even went across the border once because some website said I might have to. Nothing seems to be working.

I killed Martin right after he spoke with Ulrika by throwing him off a cliff into the water. My game automatically saved and now after sleeping Ulrika is gone but the next dialogue didn't trigger so my quest didn't progress either. Now she's just gone and she's not at Harve Village either. :(

I think I missed the quest and Ulrika is just gone from my game, also think I glitched mystic spearhand cause I met Sigurd at his home and got the class but he won't talk to me.
- Anonymous
Does anyone knows what happens if you kill Martin after he finishes speaking with Ulrika?
- Anonymous
I did everything whats required and draong in Meve doesn't shown yet...
I threw martin of a cliff after he threatened Ulrika. Probably broke the quest, but nobody puts baby in the corner.
