Mystic Spearhand is an Advanced Vocation in Dragon's Dogma 2. The Mystic Spearhand is a balanced offensive unit, capable of unleashing physical or magick damage in melee and magick damage at range. Vocations are the many character classes the player can choose from. The Vocation you choose for the Arisen or your Pawns dictates what Weapons and Skills they are able to use, as well as how their stats increase per level up. Some Vocations are only able to be used by the Arisen.
The Mystic Spearhand, a vocation available only to the Arisen, combines melee and magick, making them a well-balanced vocation that is effective from any range. The Mystic Spearhand is a master of their unique weapon, the Duospear. Using magick, they can paralyze enemies or hurl multiple objects at them.
How to Unlock the Mystic Spearhand Class in Dragon's Dogma 2
To unlock the Mystic Spearhand Vocation (Class) in Dragon's Dogma 2, players must progress the game to trigger events that involve interacting with a certain NPC. Here's a step-by-step procedure on how to unlock the Mystic Spearhand Vocation:
- First, you must discover Melve which is easily done when doing the early main quest "In Dragon's Wake".
- Complete Seat of the Sovran to gain access to Monster Culling. The quest Monster Culling is acquired if you choose "Accept" to the dialogue line "Tell me of monster culling" when speaking to Brant at The Stardrop Inn. Speaking to Brant at the inn is only available at night.
- Report back to Brant to complete Monster Culling and pass the time for a few days. You can do this by using a bench, camping, or resting at an inn.
- Ride an Oxcart at the North Vernworth Oxcart Station in Vernworth [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map]. This will take you back to Melve.
- Upon arriving at Melve, the quest "Readvent of Calamity" will trigger where you'll encounter a dragon attacking the town.
- You must fight it alongside the other NPCs to make the dragon flee the town. You don't have to kill the dragon, depleting its health bars at a certain point will make it fly away.
- After the encounter, look around the area where you just fought the dragon and you should find a man wearing a hood and a Duospear attached to his back. This NPC is Sigurd.
- If you don't see him around after the fighting the dragon, try resting at Tristan's Inn and you should find him at a certain spot in Melve. [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map]
- When you talk to him, ask his name and about his manner of fighting. This will automatically unlock the vocation after talking to him.
Alternate Way if you don't find Sigurd in Melve after fending off the dragon:
- During Monster Culling, you'll reach Harve Village and automatically trigger one of the side quests "Scaly Invaders". This quest tasks the player to defend the village from the invading Saurian creatures.
- Follow the objectives of the quest and complete it. This will result in Harve Village being rebuilt.
- As mentioned, if you don't see Sigurd in Melve after the dragon encounter, you can find him inside the Coastal Hut of Harve Village. [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map]
- Same as if you encountered him in Melve, just speak to him, ask his name and about his manner of fighting, and you'll unlock the vocation.
Where to Find the Mystic Spearhand Maister in Dragon's Dogma 2
- Assigned Maister: Sigurd
- Related Quest: To be confirmed
- Required Location: Dragonsbreath Tower [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map]
Sigurd is the Maister NPC players must interact with to acquire the Paladin's Enigmata. Using the scroll unlocks the Wild Furie Skill for the Arisen only. Players must first unlock the Mystic Spearhand vocation which can be done by speaking to him after fending off the lesser dragon that attacked Melve. (See the information above to identify where to find him after the dragon encounter). The primary objective for acquiring the scroll is to hunt down the lesser drake that attacked Melve. The location of this dragon is located at the Dragonsbreath Tower in Battahl. So you'll have to progress the story to reach the desert region. Now different instances can happen here, you either fight the dragon on your own alongside your pawns, or you'll find him at the tower and he will help you in battle. Either way, the goal is to defeat the lesser dragon and report back or speak to Sigurd, then he'll give the scroll. If he doesn't show up at the Dragonsbreath Tower, you can find him inside the Coastal Hut of Harve Village. [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map]
Mystic Spearhand Combat Guide Dragon's Dogma
The Mystic Spearhand is one of the more versatile Vocations in Dragon's Dogma 2. They utilize a Duospear weapon in melee combat that can inflict their choice of physical or magick damage. This makes for visually appealing attack combinations and sequences as both types of attack styles can be used together seamlessly to trigger unique combat interactions. Players will need to find the right balance when playing with the abilities of the Mystic Spearhand. Take advantage of all the available magick abilities and combine them with regular attack combos to maximize effects. Players can utilize magick that can paralyze or make use of items in the battle area environment to widen attack windows and gain a better attack position in between switching to melee combat.

Dragon's Dogma 2 Mystic Spearhand Guide: How to Play
Mystic spearhands wield both magick and the duospear, enabling them to fight at range and in close quarters with equal ease. Their ability to halt the enemy's movement with a charged burst of magick makes a swift offense their best defense, for they have few means of evading attacks at their disposal. Only the Arisen can acquire this vocation.
Holding down the class action button to charge up your magick before unleashing a Redouted Bolt will halt the enemy in their tracks, giving you an opportunity to bombard them with attacks till they recover. The longer the charge time, the longer the enemy will be restrained. Magick can be charged up while moving and attacking, but stamina only recovers while stationary. When you land an attack using the heavy attack button, it will change to a powerful successive strike if: 1) the target is downed or knocked off balance, or 2) the target is not expecting the attack. Powerful successive strikes should be carefully aimed, as they leave you vulnerable.
Mirour Vesture is one of the most powerful skills in the game, as it makes the Arisen and any nearby pawns immune to damage for a short time. Playing with this skill equipped makes the Mystic Spearhand a peerless tank and support character. Also core to playing this vocation is proper use of the core skill Redouted Bolt after it has been upgraded with Forbeding Bolt. Properly timed casts can stun enemies in place, opening them up to devastating counter attacks from your party. There are also the incredibly good gap closing options in the form of the skill Dragoun's Stabbe and the core skill Quik Fot.

DD2 Mystic Spearhand Stat Growth
Stats in Dragon's Dogma 2 grow in two ways - temporary Stat Adjustments from choosing and adopting a Vocation, and increases that happen per level, modified by Vocation Stat Multipliers. Stat Adjustments happen instantly whenever you change into a Vocation. This means that when you choose your Basic Vocation during Character Creation, you'll likely already have these Stat Adjustments already applied to your Stats. Vocation Stat Multipliers are relevant whenever your character levels up.
Mystic Spearhand Stat Adjustments in Dragon's Dogma 2
As aforementioned, Stat Adjustments will immediately and automatically apply whenever you switch Vocations. These temporary Stat changes will reflect the Vocation's play style and will benefit the Stats that are advantageous for it. In contrast, some Stats may reduced to balance out the Vocation's stats. When you switch to a different Vocation, these adjustments will be taken away, and then the Stat Adjustments for the newer Vocation will be conferred accordingly. Switching to the Mystic Spearhand Vocation will confer the following Stat Adjustments:
- Health: +50
- Stamina: +100
- Strength: +50
- Defense: -15
- Magick: +50
- Magick Defense: -15
- Knockdown Power: +20
- Knockdown Res: -50
- Weight: +0
Mystic Spearhand Stat Multipliers in Dragon's Dogma 2
Whenever a character levels up, they are granted base Stat increases which are determined per level. These base Stat increases are then modified by Vocation Stat Multipliers which can be different per Stat and are different per Vocation. Like Stat Adjustments, these multipliers will reflect the Vocation's playstyles and lean towards the Stats that are advantageous to it. After the multiplier is applied to the base stat increase for each Stat, they are then rounded down before being permanently granted to your character. The Mystic Spearhand has the following Stat Multipliers:
Knockdown Power, Knockdown Res, and Weight do not have multipliers. Knockdown Res doesn't grow at all, and Weight will stop growing after level 40. Knockdown Power will also stop growing after level 81. Past level 200, every Stat aside from Health will grow by 1 point with each level (before Vocation modifiers).
For an in-depth guide into how Stat Levels grow and how Stat Leveling works in Dragon's Dogma 2, as well as a full list of the base Stat increases per level before any multipliers, visit our page here.

DD2 Mystic Spearhand Other Notes & Tips
- Additional Notes & Tips for the Mystic Spearhand go here.
- Duo Destinies: You can get this Vocation automatically during A New Godsway. You can also get the Mystic Spearhand vocation by talking to Sigurd. After obtaining the vocation, head to a guild hall or an inn to change your Vocation to Mystic Spearhand. Requires 100 Discipline Points.
- Versatile: This is one of the easiest trophies to obtain, and you won't miss it. Just chance your Vocation for another one. It doesn't matter if you stick with it. In certain Inns or Guild Halls, head to the clerk and interact to select the option to change your Vocation. It costs you 100 Discipline Points.
- The Specialist: You have to reach Rank 9 in any Vocation. Players will level up their Vocation as they kill enemies. As you play through the game, you will eventually reach rank 9 with, at least, one of the Vocations.

I don't know if I'm ret**ded or the game is bugged for me, but winding cut does not work for me. I can press X till I'm blue in the face and it just does the basic combo endlessly, it never twirls it. Which I think actually is nerfing my potential damage by a large margin.
- Anonymous
Did Capcom leave the naming to someone Dyslexic or something for this one?

For those who think this class is too simplistic and easy to play, try turning off the shield skill. Sure it's a bit tough to get a hold of, but the fun and damage you put out is insane! I ran with the shield skill for awhile, and I almost stop using the class. After I dropped the skill and started using other skills, it became my number 1 most fun class to play! I felt kind of dumb using the shield skill for as long as I did. It sucked too much of the joy of the combat for me. Use it, boring game and boring player. Don't use it, lots of learning and fun to be had!

If you happen to skip this one after the dragon attack, he will move to Harve (his house is there, north-east of the village). If you don't find him in Harve either, he'll be located at the Dragonsbreath Tower. He will not move from there and wait for you to arrive, and assist you. Also he will give you the Dead Ringer duo spear which is probably one of the best in the game.

It's bugged. I killed the dragon in Melve in normal combat. Noone approached, wasn't spearhand at the time, wasn't aware of it. When everyone moved to Harve, I talked to him there, picked up spearhand, but no skill. Later I finished the main quest with 15 crystals, had those from other dragons. Then went exploring the dragon tower, there was no animation, but the spawned dragon, so I killed it. No sigmund anywhere. Then I read he is supposed to hand me the skill, but he never did.
His convo in Harve Village is useless. Cannot gift him anything. Waiting doesn't work. More time or restarts don't work. Returning to the tower and killing respawned dragon doesn't work. Tried to port sigmund to the tower but he just travels back to village. No skill :/

If you kill dragon at melve he will reward maisters ability.

Overall a strong vocation; but it definitely doesn't fill the niche of Mystic Knight left behind, or the potential of a High Sceptre from Dragon's Dogma Online.
A lot of its kit is fun enough; but I miss Stone Jungle, Great Cannon, or any of the awesome skills High Sceptre had that we didn't get for DD2.
Here's hoping the survey is actually something they are using for feedback on what to put into the next game/DLC.

"To me" pawn command + Sheld + Hond when stamina is low = literally invincible with maximum pawn dps uptime. What were they thinking? With aggro boosting rings and augments other tanks may as well not exist.
Meanwhile trickster is hands down the worst vocation in DD
- Anonymous
Spirit Lancer plus High Scepter could have been really cool. But, then again, they thought it best to make Trickster.

IMO, the "window" for using the follow ups after redoubted/forbeding bolt is too narrow. They should add extra inputs to guarantee that you can pull it off like "forward + A" or at least lock the jump button so that the only thing you can cast is the teleport BECAUSE you already committed to charging forbeding bolt. And because it takes a while to charge, you literally have to recharge if you miss the window.
I've jumped in place more times than I've blinked toward an enemy. Additionally, the scattering bolt seems to be like a bread and butter for

Stat Growth: Level 25 -> 26
30 HP, 4 Stam, 0 Carrywght, 6 Str, 0 Mag (wtf?), 4 Def, 5 Mag Def
seems like a defensive class stats-wise?
- Anonymous
So what’s the main damage type from this class ? Physical or magical ??
- Anonymous
For those who don't find the dragon, unfortunately I went too far with the main missions before going to Melvor, if you don't find the dragon, simply go inside the Coastal Hut of Harve Village and talk to the NPC you will find inside

You can kill Dragon with the ballista on the tower in three shots to get a nice weapon be sure to call your pawns to you so they help aim the ballista. Make sure to move and change its direction so it faces the dragon yourself so its faster.
This is for the quest "Readvent of Calamity".

You do not have to do specifically the monster culling task from Brandt. Any of the three seem to satisfy the trigger for that method.
I personally did both of the other two quests from Brandt and have yet to do Culling and was able to follow the rest of that method without issue.
- Anonymous
So where's that "shadow"/doppleganger ability we saw in the trailers????
NOT TRUE I NEVER FOUGHT THE DRAGON OR TALKED TO SIG . I played this game like most 1st play thoughs BLIND an just running around aimlessly collecting stuff and doing quests as they come, anyway once i heard about this vocation i went to melve but no dragon and no quest related to it , i then ran to harve an soon as i hit talk to sig it unlocked the mystic spearhand (which only found out about exploding sacred arbor early an seeing the weapons available)
