Trickster is an Advanced Vocation in Dragon's Dogma 2. The Trickster is a support-oriented class with the ability to conjure smoke illusions that distract foes, as well as the ability to boost Pawn attacks. Vocations are the many character classes the player can choose from. The Vocation you choose for the Arisen or your Pawns dictates what Weapons and Skills they are able to use, as well as how their stats increase per level up. Some Vocations are only able to be used by the Arisen.
A vocation exclusive to the Arisen, the Trickster can conjure illusions through the smoke created by its unique weapon, the Censer. Tricksters can use illusions to deceive enemies into fighting against their own. They also have the ability to temporarily increase the power of Pawns beyond their limits.
How to Unlock the Trickster Class in Dragon's Dogma 2
- The Trickster Vocation (Class) in Dragon's Dogma 2 is unlocked by speaking to the spirit or specter form of Luz at the Reverent Shrine. You'll find her spirit inside the shrine. [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map]. It is possible to unlock the vocation before you start the quest Flickering Shadows.
- You must then return to a Vocation Guild (example: Vernworth Vocation Guild) to acquire it. Acquiring or unlocking the vocation at a Vocation Guild requires 200 Dcp.
- Maister Skill: Theurgists's Rite - Located by finding Luz on top of the temple she is found in [Map Link]. She is invisible, but you can find her on the roof front, and she will give this to you once you approach it.
Where to Find the Trickster Maister in Dragon's Dogma 2
- Assigned Maister: Luz
- Related Quest: none
- Maister's Location: Reverent Shrine [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map]
Luz is the Maister NPC players must interact with to acquire the Theurgist's Rite. Using the scroll unlocks the Dragon's Delusion Trickster Skill for yourself. There is no related quest but just simple steps to obtain the scroll. (It's still to be clarified, but she may not appear there until you start/progress the quest Flickering Shadows.) When you arrive at the Reverent Shrine, you'll first encounter her spirit or specter inside, and speaking to her will unlock the Trickster vocation. Go outside the shrine; you should find a ladder on the left side. Climb to the roof and you should find Luz in the flesh. Simply speak to her to acquire the scroll.

Dragon's Dogma 2 Trickster Guide: How to Play
Tricksters wield peculiar smoke-dispensing implements known as censers to conjure an array of illusions. Though they have few means of harming their enemies directly, tricksters excel in the art of deceit, and possess magicks fit to befuddle foes and trick them into delivering their own ends. Only the Arisen can acquire this vocation. The Trickster's basic attack swings the censer to diffuse its smoke. However, unlike for other vocations, this action deals hardly any damage, and its true purpose is to draw attention to the wielder. Use the censer to beguile your foes, and you shall soon have them dancing on the palm of your hand.
The Trickster can use the heavy attack button to conjure a simulacrum: an illusory figure that is identical to the caster and can be used to confuse foes. Use the class action button to summon the simulacrum to your side. Note that the simulacrum has limited health, and will weaken and ultimately dissipate when struck. It will also dissipate if the caster incurs damage or strays too far away from it. After conjuring a simulacrum, hold down the class action button and press the heavy attack button to cast Enthralling Aroma and possess an enemy. Other foes will confuse the possessed victim for the caster and attack. The wily trickster knows how to turn enmity to their advantage, and need not feel outnumbered even when facing down multiple foes.
Tricksters cannot deal damage to their foes directly, but equipping a censer still serves to augment their prowess in battle by boosting their strength and magick. Strength affects the trickster's ability to draw the attention of foes by swinging the censer, while magick increases the health of their conjured simulacrum.
In general, Trickster skills focus on illusion magicks designed to confuse, terrify, possess, or stun enemies. They also have Aromatic Rally which provides a significant buff to party damage. If you must deal damage as a trickster and your party is not up to the task, you may consider using consumable spell books to cast magic spells, unequip your censer temporarily to use unarmed attacks on your enemies, or pick up and throw objects or enemies.

DD2 Trickster Stat Growth
Stats in Dragon's Dogma 2 grow in two ways - temporary Stat Adjustments from choosing and adopting a Vocation, and increases that happen per level, modified by Vocation Stat Multipliers. Stat Adjustments happen instantly whenever you change into a Vocation. This means that when you choose your Basic Vocation during Character Creation, you'll likely already have these Stat Adjustments already applied to your Stats. Vocation Stat Multipliers are relevant whenever your character levels up.
Trickster Stat Adjustments in Dragon's Dogma 2
As aforementioned, Stat Adjustments will immediately and automatically apply whenever you switch Vocations. These temporary Stat changes will reflect the Vocation's play style and will benefit the Stats that are advantageous for it. In contrast, some Stats may reduced to balance out the Vocation's stats. When you switch to a different Vocation, these adjustments will be taken away, and then the Stat Adjustments for the newer Vocation will be conferred accordingly. Switching to the Trickster Vocation will confer the following Stat Adjustments:
- Health: +100
- Stamina: +100
- Strength: -100
- Defense: +50
- Magick: +0
- Magick Defense: +50
- Knockdown Power: +20
- Knockdown Res: -50
- Weight: +5
Trickster Stat Multipliers in Dragon's Dogma 2
Whenever a character levels up, they are granted base Stat increases which are determined per level. These base Stat increases are then modified by Vocation Stat Multipliers which can be different per Stat and are different per Vocation. Like Stat Adjustments, these multipliers will reflect the Vocation's playstyles and lean towards the Stats that are advantageous to it. After the multiplier is applied to the base stat increase for each Stat, they are then rounded down before being permanently granted to your character. The Trickster has the following Stat Multipliers:
Knockdown Power, Knockdown Res, and Weight do not have multipliers. Knockdown Res doesn't grow at all, and Weight will stop growing after level 40. Knockdown Power will also stop growing after level 81. Past level 200, every Stat aside from Health will grow by 1 point with each level (before Vocation modifiers).

DD2 Trickster Other Notes & Tips
- As the Trickster vocation cannot deal damage on its own, consumable spell tome items become essential should one needs the means to deal damage in a one-on-one battle (such as the duel in Welcome to Battahl if you don't have time to change to other vocations). Alternatively, one can throw objects such as boxes, crates, rocks, barrels and dead enemies to deal damage. In a last resort where melee is necessary, one can unequip the censer and melee with fists. Unarmed melee damage can be further boosted by equipping two copies of Ring of Brawn while lowering your equip load as much as possible.
- Additional Notes & Tips for the Trickster go here.
- Trickster of the Trade: You can get this Vocation automatically during Flickering Shadows. After obtaining the vocation, head to a guild hall or an inn to change your Vocation to Trickster. Requires 100 Discipline Points.
- Versatile: This is one of the easiest trophies to obtain, and you won't miss it. Just chance your Vocation for another one. It doesn't matter if you stick with it. In certain Inns or Guild Halls, head to the clerk and interact to select the option to change your Vocation. It costs you 100 Discipline Points.
- The Specialist: You have to reach Rank 9 in any Vocation. Players will level up their Vocation as they kill enemies. As you play through the game, you will eventually reach rank 9 with, at least, one of the Vocations.

A few constructive observations on playing Trickster:
1) while weapon damage is insignificant, it doesn't seem to be zero, wherever is relevant;
2) a hit is a hit, for mechanics reliant on hitting something a number of times as opposed to doing damage, including Prescient Flare;
3) the censer does have kockdown power and can make foes flinch, opening up tactics such as grabbing them, and;
4) Frigor spawns ice blocks you can throw, make of that what you will.

Picking this vocation just makes the game harder...nothing more.

This vocation would be super cool in.. well.. an online coop game. Just sitting there and watching AI beat up enemies that are ignoring them doesn't quite hit the same way.

The funny thing about Trickster is that the class would actually be extremely broken if we had the ability to control our pawns more directly like in Dragon Age or Mass Effect, but as it is rn trickster is an absolute waste of a vocation. Against trash mobs you just stand there doing nothing because setting up your illusion stuff takes longer than most encounters last and against bosses most of their abilities are useless. You just have your mirage tank damage in a game that is already way too easy to begin with.

Trickster any only your main pawn = true Hard Mode of this game. lol

****. I have no clue what to do with this class. Seriously. I get it not every class can be to your liking but still some one can play it better than others. I get that. But this class? I tried I really, really did and all I can say is this is a trash. I rather play mage or sorcerer then this class. Only good thing this class is good is when I get bored being OP on any other class and I want a Hard Mode I go play this class.

monster that kill another monster under trikster influence don't give reward for pawn mission.

Needs sleep debilitations or something. Like maybe on the charged attack or when your illusion dies/is dismissed. It would work thematically but I wouldn't feel like I'm just standing around doing nothing.

I had to Alt F4 the game because of this class. I was travelling to Batthal when I met the lady who gives you the class. I change to Trickster to try it out then got in the tavern brawl where I was doing 0 damage to the opponents. For god's sake, give the smoke a small AoE damage, or life drain and this class would skyrocket in fun and viability.

I'm loving this as a Wayfarer, you can essentially take both the tank role and healer role, i'm doing Trickster/Magik Archer (for heal & Rez in 1 skill, plus self heal bow). 2 sorc and 1 thief, every boss dies in seconds.

I couldn't even manage to kill a pig. Even the ****ing pig was kicking my ass!!!

Hell is walking around enemy territory as a lvl 1 Trickster. The class should really be called "Bystander".
The class can be good, and needs only two skills: the Aggro hold, and the pawn buff. Your pawns can do insane damage with this, while you just make enemies hit air as you watch.
However, if things go awry, you'll have one painful time recovering. This is a class that really should have had a way to block, dodge, or recover from stunlock. Or at least more utility than telling your pawns to "Hit Harder" like DoTs, HoTs, invulns, stealth, CC, traps...
If you do poorly, this class will not feel fun. If you do well, this class will not feel fun.

This vocation is deceptively good, but it tricks you by being dogshit for like the first few levels. It's definitely a late game vocation. Run it with aromatic resurgence and the two pawn buffing augments from magic archer. Combine that with a mage for further buffs/healing and two dps pawns, you absolutely shred through things.
My main gripe with this vocation is you get the fun stuff super late. Latching effigy is a blast, but you should unlock that at like level 3 or something. It's half the fun of the vocation. I think if they reordered the skill unlocks this would feel a lot better to pick up. I played it a little in the mid game and hated it, then came back to it in endgame and absolutely loved it.

Rank 1 trickster is the literal worst. If your effigy or party dies literally just once, you're ****ed and all you can do is run around and try desperately to not get hit.
- Anonymous
Another dev team trying to reinvent the wheel with the classic Necromancer class. Just put a damn necromancer in there and stop this absurd drama of avoiding the class while trying to be "original". Both Itsuno (Dragon's Dogma) and Miyazaki (Soulsborne series) have an absolute hate and aversion for playable necromancy and it shows in their games, all plagued with undead but you can never play a proper necromancer in them.

Want to kill all enjoyment in the game? Well Trickster is the vocation for you!

I found throwing the bodies of defeated enemies (or knockdown ones) at other enemies during any battle helps keep you in the fight a bit, and feel like your doing damage, while providing solid support.

The more i think about this class the more i feel its purpose is found within warfarer.

Very interesting to use with warfarer to increase a whole party buff and we can switch to use our main vocation to make the damage, too. Maybe we can kill monster faster

Hell yeah a support class cant wait to test this on my pawn-
"Arisen only"
LMAO LOL KEK

I have been messing around with the trickster a bit and it certainly is weird to play compared to the more classic classes. But I am having so much fun messing with the enemies that I dont care, this is exactly the sort of shenanigans that makes me love DD so much.

Get mage pawn for heal, celerity, debuff removal and levin , then get 2 other warrior or thief pawns for major dps , spam dragon ulti to drop any enemy, buff your pawns , easy mode minion master

Went to the roof first because I saw the ladder first as I approached it from the side. Oops

Aromatic Rally is a massive damage buff from what I can tell, and contrary to another comment below, the DoT is quite minor and mages will not in fact spend most of their time casting anodyne (hell, most of the time I can't get them to cast it even when I want them to).
The aggro generation is also unparalleled. Fighter & Warrior might be able to compete, by stacking shield drum/bellow, taunt ring, provocation... Trickster can just cast Shroud once.
Being able to pull out so many free healthbars also diminishes the need of a healer to begin with, though you probably are still bringing a mage because enchants + haste is too damn good.
All said... that's kind of where the class utility ends. The rest is gimmicky stuff that is either too niche, or costs you loot+exp, or both. Instead, you'll be doing the same thing in every fight, running around, blowing smoke out your ass, and Rallying your pawns every so often. The augments list is comically silly too, though I guess the first two have utility for the real explorers out there.
I've no doubt that the vocation is -strong-. You can run a full dps squad and buff their damage to massive levels. But it's also quickly dull letting your pawns do most of the work.
- Anonymous
Cool class, love the idea/concept. HATE that you do >literally< 0 damage. I'm fine with the tank/support style of play, but when you're forced to 1v1 something or you're the only one alive to deal damage, you are better off unequipping your weapon to hand-to-hand them to death. Played it to max vocation level in hopes it got better, but never did.
- Anonymous
The class requires setup before fights. Try to keep a healthy simulacrum up while you roam so that if you aggro enemies you can send them to it. Against bosses you tend to mess up their AI so just buff allies and keep putting down simulacrum to keep the bosses from aiming near allies.

can confirm you can unlock this at any time by talking to Luz.

I tried playing this, but it's so underwhelming. I can force enemies to attack one of their own... or I can play sorcerer bring down the literal hand of god to destroy entire armies. What is the point of this? I could see myself adding this to a pawn so they can support me, but I don't want to be playing support.

thought tricksters would be Dots, Debuffs and Buffs.
Nope, just tank with 0 dmg

After playing it to level 9......Interesting idea, but not as great in practice, and Horrible with pawns.
Vs many targets:
Possesion makes it fine damage wise.
Easy to use to be honest, just make spirit, possess 1, sweep 1-2 times. Keep it alive and keep aggro up
It is to wonky on big creature vs big creatures, tried a lot of the time on 2 cyclops, they just kill the spirit to fast.
Vs Single target big creatures: Example dragon, ogre, gryphon etc
Severe lack of damage, you can't really do any meaningfull damage.
Best you can do is drop spirit, keep aggro and run away and "heal" or "tap" the simulcron. Repeat. That's it, you straight up a fighter/warrior who spammed provoke/roar but zero damage.
"You can buff up the team!", Stupid enough, it damage the team over time -> Makes mage spam heal -> lost damage/buffs.
"You can use illusions!" Wall seems to only work for pathing and ranged attacks, if they can reach from X point but in or otherside of wall, the enemy seem to ignore it.
"You can make illusion bridges!" sometimes it works, most times it does not. When it works of the time you need a high cliff... and the downside because the loot is down there. Pawns also jank around and sometimes chase tries to chase them when they drop.
It is a very gimmic vocation, but it severely lacks damage unless you just go on some gimmic team with 3 sorcerers and keep aggro and be chased around.
They should atleast just make it deal "some" damage, not as much as the other maybe. But you can't even kill a rabbit.
