Thief is a Basic Vocation in Dragon's Dogma 2. The Thief is a nimble unit that uses positional advantages and quick strikes to defeat Enemies. Vocations are the many character classes the player can choose from. The Vocation you choose for the Arisen or your Pawns dictates what Weapons and Skills they are able to use, as well as how their stats increase per level up. Some Vocations are only able to be used by the Arisen.

The Thief attacks with deadly speed, dealing rapid and consecutive strikes with daggers in both hands while exhibiting outstanding mobility. They quickly step away after striking, exploit openings to cling onto enemies, and inflict heavy damage. They may also steal items from NPCs and enemies.

Dragon's Dogma 2 Thief Guide: How to Play

Thieves wield their daggers with speed and ruthless efficiency, unleashing a flurry of deadly blows the one moment and stepping nimbly out of the enemy's reach in the next. Knowing when to strike and when to slip away is key to their strategy, as thieves can little afford to be weighed down with heavy armor, leaving them vulnerable to attack. Press the class action button to use Swift Step, a versatile maneuver that allows you to smoothly evade enemy attacks. It can be used to hound your enemy or dance rings around them, getting within dagger-thrust distance and darting away again in the blink of an eye.

Press the heavy attack button to use Twin Fangs. You can pin down foes that have been knocked off balance by continuing to hold the heavy attack button while activating and landing the attack. This gives you the opportunity to follow up with more attacks and deal massive damage. You will need to be wary of counterattacks, however, as you cannot move while pinning down a foe. Holding down while activate twin fangs allows you to cling to larger enemies on a successful hit. This is an ideal position to be in, as thieves have a variety of skills at their disposal that can be activated while clinging to a foe. In short, once you have your daggers in them, you'll bring them down in moments! When you land an attack using the heavy attack button, it will change to a powerful successive strike if: 1) the target is downed or knocked off balance, or 2) the target is not expecting the attack. Powerful successive strikes should be carefully aimed, as they leave you vulnerable.

Thief is moderately difficult class with high mobility and damage potential. Much of the play style revolves around using Swift Step to dodge an enemy attack, then following up with devastating attacks while the enemy recovers from their attack swing. If you have difficulty using Swift Step to avoid damage, you may also use the skill Formless Feint which will automatically dodge attacks for you at the cost of a continuous stamina drain. This ability can make a thief into a tank that completely negates enemy attacks.

You can also jump on enemies from behind behind to pin them down or deal bonus backstab damage. After climbing up to an enemy weak point, you may use the skill Gut and Run to deal large damage to the enemy before jumping off. However, when used near an enemy weak point, Helm Splitter is generally the skill that can deal the most damage.

Also of note is the utility skill Pilfer, which allows a thief to gain bonus items from enemies during combat. Additionally, it can be used outside of combat on NPCs to obtain items from them. You can only steal from each NPC once per game. The skill Ensnare also provides a great deal of utility, as it can be used to pull flying enemies to the ground or pull large enemies to the ground after they become staggered or lose their balance.

Where to Find the Thief Maister in Dragon's Dogma 2

Flaude and Srail are the Maister NPCs players must interact with to acquire the Pilferer's Handbook and Legend's Opus scrolls. The Pilferer's Handbook unlocks the Formless Feint skill, while the Legend's Opus grants the Blades of the Pyre skill for both yourself and your pawn. Acquiring these scrolls requires players to complete a main quest, "The Nameless Village". Complete the quest and then speak to Flaude to obtain Legend's Opus, you can find him at the Old Noble Manor [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map].

In the same town, you'll find a cavern called the Nameless Village Depths [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map], the cavern's entrance is behind the manor. Inside, you'll find an obstacle course. Complete this obstacle course until you reach the end which is a room where you'll meet a familiar face, this man is Srail whom you encountered back at the village entrance. Exhaust all of the dialogue lines with this NPC until he gives you the Pilferer's Handbook.

DD2 Thief Starting Equipment

The Thief starts the game with the following equipment:

DD2 Thief Stat Growth

Stats in Dragon's Dogma 2 grow in two ways - temporary Stat Adjustments from choosing and adopting a Vocation, and increases that happen per level, modified by Vocation Stat Multipliers. Stat Adjustments happen instantly whenever you change into a Vocation. This means that if you chose the Thief as your Basic Vocation during Character Creation, you'll likely already have these Stat Adjustments already applied to your Stats. Vocation Stat Multipliers are relevant whenever your character levels up.

Thief Stat Adjustments in Dragon's Dogma 2

As aforementioned, Stat Adjustments will immediately and automatically apply whenever you switch Vocations. These temporary Stat changes will reflect the Vocation's play style and will benefit the Stats that are advantageous for it. In contrast, some Stats may reduced to balance out the Vocation's stats. When you switch to a different Vocation, these adjustments will be taken away, and then the Stat Adjustments for the newer Vocation will be conferred accordingly. Switching to the Thief Vocation will confer the following Stat Adjustments:

Thief Stat Multipliers in Dragon's Dogma 2

Whenever a character levels up, they are granted base Stat increases which are determined per level. These base Stat increases are then modified by Vocation Stat Multipliers which can be different per Stat and are different per Vocation. Like Stat Adjustments, these multipliers will reflect the Vocation's playstyles and lean towards the Stats that are advantageous to it. After the multiplier is applied to the base stat increase for each Stat, they are then rounded down before being permanently granted to your character. The Thief has the following Stat Multipliers:

Knockdown Power, Knockdown Res, and Weight do not have multipliers. Knockdown Res doesn't grow at all, and Weight will stop growing after level 40. Knockdown Power will also stop growing after level 81. Past level 200, every Stat aside from Health will grow by 1 point with each level (before Vocation modifiers).

DD2 Thief Other Notes & Tips

  • Additional Notes & Tips for the Thief go here.
  • The Thief is a new Vocation for this sequel game, which does away with the Strider and instead splits it into the long-ranged Archer and the melee-ranged Thief.
  • bronze trophy ps5 wiki guide30pxVersatile: This is one of the easiest trophies to obtain, and you won't miss it. Just chance your Vocation for another one. It doesn't matter if you stick with it. In certain Inns or Guild Halls, head to the clerk and interact to select the option to change your Vocation. It costs you 100 Discipline Points.
  • bronze trophy ps5 wiki guide30pxThe Specialist: You have to reach Rank 9 in any Vocation. Players will level up their Vocation as they kill enemies. As you play through the game, you will eventually reach rank 9 with, at least, one of the Vocations.

My favourite vocation so far for doing a solo run. Fast attacks, high DPS, auto dodge, fun skills, what more could you want?

Start as theif, go straight to checkpoint town and get the nearby Bolt from the Blue daggers. Run to unnamed village and get the maister skill. Get shadow veil, skull splitter, implicate and you're golden.

I used to dread the run through Battahl and to the volcanic isle at low levels, but not now I have shadow veil, can sneak through most of the tricky areas without much bother. And even if you're spotted they don't chase you very far.

      • Anonymous

Skull Splitter (kill fast ) + Implicate (good for anoing fling mobs and fast dodging ones on the ground) + Cutting Wind (to close distance fast) or what ever you want + what ever you want or if you are still strugling with combat teake Smoke Shroud until you get Formless Feint skill (they are your panick botton skills). Also do not forget you have side step to get away from attacks fast (on mouse it is right botton).

I wonder why they gave this class auto dodge? Like this class is just easy mode on steroids. No complaining but just wondering

          • Anonymous

Apply Skull Splitter to all four slots, just to make sure you don't accidentally use something other than Skull Splitter.

I identify as a freaking buzzsaw.

            • Anonymous

They seriously decided to call the vocation "Thief"?
Everyone who wields 2 daggers is automatically considered a "Thief"?
And the NPC's are ok with it, they're just like, "oh you're a thief, that's cool".
Maybe in the future they'll add new vocations like Vandal, Crook, or Arsonist.

              • Anonymous

this is so OP its not even funny.

step 1. get a sleep scroll
step 2. put monster into sleep
                step 3. activate fire daggers
                step 4. use scarlet kisses
step 5. melt literally anything and anyone.

saw a friend do this and it was disgusting to watch. in other words
