Dragon's Dogma 2 Blades of the Pyre Upgrades

Some Skills have advanced forms that have stronger effects that can range from more damage, having a longer duration, being able to hit more enemies etc.
This is the advancement path for Blades of the Pyre:

  • This weapon skill has no upgrade path.

DD2 Blades of the Pyre Guide, Notes & Tips

  • This is a weapon skill. Weapon skills are vocation-dependent — though some vocations share the same weapons, they might not have access to the same weapon skills. Executed by pressing the corresponding weapon skill button.
  • Skills in Dragon's Dogma 2 are various passive and active abilities that the player can assign to the Arisen and their Pawns for use during combat. Some Skills are only usable depending on the Vocation of the character, while other Skills are dependent on the Weapon the character is using.
  • Some Skills are shared between Vocations — when you buy a Skill shared by 2 or move Vocations, it can be accessed by any Vocation that can use it and doesn't have to be purchased again when swapping Vocations.
  • High Knockdown effect. It is especially effective against Griffins or any creature that have flesh/fur because of Fire damage. Though against Dragons it's probably better to go for heart (Gut and Run/Skull Splitter) and wings (Skull Splitter) with other attacks. More effective if Ice buff is active or Ice Daggers.
  • Combine with extra stamina rings, stamina augments, and with Celestial Paean (Mage Pawn) while Formless Feint is active. You will have a disgusting amount of knockdown effect, damage and with incredibly high uptime.
  • Also using Blades of the Pyre (Formless Feint Active) and immediately repositioning with dash behind your opponents to repositing will exploit its damage potential if you have Ring of Skullduggery.
  • This skill cannot be used when tackling or climbing on to larger enemies.

    • Anyone else not finding the Letter to open up conversation option with Maister in Nameless Village? I had to come back after my initial visit and it isn't in the hut it is supposed to be in.
Also, not in my inventory or in storage or in my main pawn's inventory.

For anyone wondering, the buff only last about 10 seconds. It seems you are meant to use the explosion as base of damage from this skill.

Does scale with Magick, and by a lot.
Tested with Frosted Edges & Battahli Biters due to them having similar Strength stat. On Hobgoblins around the roads of Battahl Using Damage Number mod.
12616 Fire damage w/ Frosted Edges
7900 - 9000 Fire damage w/ Battahli Biters, damage variance is probably because of the casts with & without fire enchant provided by the skill itself.

Does anyone know how to get this if you missed it the first time around? I basically found the "hidden" path instantly and didn't even enter the manor. Found out later about this skill, max level thief but the manor man won't talk to me. I'll try pilfering and update if that works

Probably best vocation tbh with formless feint and dragon forged on this skill will half its stamina, so, do that. But we all want to know if this s ales with magic, I would imagine it does but idk.

If you have formless feint active you won’t take any self damage from the skill. Probably a very intentional combo. As well as good storytelling.

when i Finished the nameless village I was given "Formless Feint", I didn't knwo about "Blades of the Pyre" and when i went back to get it the guy wouldn't talk to me...
If anyone has a solution plz share

I'm here to save you guys with the forbidden tech, use Formless Feint before activating Blades of the Pyre and you will DODGE THE EXPLOSION, which means you get the sizeable chunk of damage this ability does to nearby enemies AND the boosted buff for further attacks at a downside of minimal stamina loss per second. You can LITERALLY SPAM this skill as long as Formless Feint is active to continue to apply a strong damage/knockback to most enemies. Gamespot called this ability a meme/joke ability but in typical game journalist fashion they didn't even figure out a proper use case before doing so.

Also, Formless Feint is busted as hell and trivializes practically every enemy attack and only costs stamina.. which you can just refill.

Enjoy the new power, these 2 abilities have not left my Thief setup since discovery.
