Dragon's Dogma 2 Shadowed Prayers Quest Walkthrough
Identify the assassin
You will reach the outskirts of Bakbattahl as you complete the main quest Nation of the Lambent Flame. During this quest, you will meet Menella who will offer you a Battahl Residence Permit in exchange for helping them identify the assassin. After this encounter, proceed to the inn and rest for the night. The next day, look for Menella's location which will be indicated by the marker on your map to discuss the plan, then, she will move again to Flamebearer Palace.
The Empress will run an event and you'll be positioned at the back where you have a clear view of the crowd. The assassin you're looking for is a man with his hair tied back and a noticeable wound on his right arm. If you're coming from the top of the stairs, this man will be on the left side of the hall where a group of people are praying. Press RT while facing the NPC to grab them. NOTE: There are decoys intentionally placed in this room and it's possible that you'll end up arresting the wrong man. Make sure to save first before you grab someone.
Apprehend the assassin
NOTE: This quest is time-limited and you need to hurry and identify the assassin because it can cause the quest to fail.
You should find Herman among the crowd. He's on the right side when looking up the steps. This is a picture of him, note the scar on his arm and the ponytail
After catching the assassin, the man will be immediately apprehended and you will be taken to the Empress's Chambers where she'll express her gratitude to you. This encounter will mark Shadowed Prayers as completed.
DD2 Shadowed Prayers Quest Objectives

- Go to Flamebearer Palace in the morning
- Identify the assassin
Shadowed Prayers Quest Rewards in Dragon's Dogma 2
This Quest has multiple Outcomes. You apprehended an innocent civilian:
In spite of the precautions taken, the assassin's dagger found its mark, and Empress Nadinia's life was cut tragically short in the midst of her supplications. Ser Menella has been forced to take responsibility for the deed, as the plan to entrap the assailant was of her design— though some would say that the weight of her own grief is punishment enough.
You apprehended the assassin:
Your timely intervention and apprehension of the would-be assassin allowed the empress to conclude her supplications with dignity, demonstrating the depth of her faith before the people. But the threat to Her Majesty's life remains, for the true mastermind of the assassination plot has yet to be brought to justice.
You apprehended the assassin - Shadowed Prayers Rewards:
- 3500 XP
- 0 Dcp
- 18,000 G
- x5 Jasper

My town got nuked so I had to revive people for this one to actually trigger - I had to revive the empress, Ser Menella and Irhmild or something like that. Then I stayed at the inn and when I ran into the palace the event started. Irhmild stands next to Ser Menella at the entrance.

I just did that quest and had to close the game and restart before it saved as I couldn’t find the assassin. Idk if the character models change but I did not have anyone at all with any kind of wound on their right arm

There will be a few ppl with weapons on them, speak to them until you find an NPC that's rude to u. Grapple him and piss on his face

If Nadinia dies. Worry not. A wakestone will surely ruin the assassins plot. Menella may yet get her name cleared and the true face behind the plot aught be revealed.

I've never even been offered the mission. Been all over Bakbattahl too. Not sure what to do about it.
Does this require Feast of Deception to have been completed? I've been trying to avoid doing any main story quests.

In order to progress this quest rest at an Inn not your your home. Resting at home resulted in a soft lock and Manella never gave me the description of the assassin. The assassin didn't spawn.

You have swapped outcome texts, apprehending assassin gives you "Your timely intervention..." quote.

In my game he did not match the description exactly - he did not have his right arm bandaged, instead he had a visible scar on it.
Look for the half tail hairstyle (only top half of hair pulled into a ponytail) and his hair is dark brown instead of the greyish brown look here, and there is no wound on his arm- no anything on his arm actually, no bandage, bracer etc. That picture above is him, he just looks a little different (maybe there's slight random variations on the character model on each playthrough?).
