You can carry your pawn into the exhibition hall, then move it to their inventory and they will just run out with it, this makes it so you don’t have to pay for it later.

You can also finish this quest like this:
-get the staff
-Gifting the Staff right back to Gunther (the person who gifted it to you)
-when the guard calls all people to the center (second dialogue while trying to exit the front door) he also asks for any assistance
- catch Gunther (sprint-grab)
-this results in Gunther immediately confess that he's the thief

The Guard will thank you for your assistance and give you 7500G as reward

Thought I also add this in since this is what happens after the quest. There's a knight outside near the entrance to the masquerade party. He's looking for the paragon staff from when you did the quest "A Noble Exchange." If you give him the real one he will give you the Platinum card, but if you decide to give him the fake he gives you 3k gold. It cost more to create the replica so not really worth it especially if you can steal it. Unless you plan on selling the Platinum card or use it.
