A Case of Sculptor's Block is a Quest for Dragon's Dogma 2 (DD2). A Case of Sculptor's Block is not affected by the passage of time. A man named Klark asks for the Arisen's help, he requests a special sculpture piece he would like to add to his home.

You happened upon the estate of a noble marked for its collection of sculptures, but it seems to be one masterpiece short. Perhaps a word with the sculptor himself is in order.

How to Unlock A Case of Sculptor's Block Quest in Dragon's Dogma 2

Players can get this quest early in the game, simply progress the story and approach Klark at the Noble Quarter area of Vernworth. Klark can be found standing outside his house, "Klark's Estate". See A Case of Sculptor's Block on the [Dragon's Dogma 2 Map].

Dragon's Dogma 2 A Case of Sculptor's Block Quest Notes & Tips

  • This quest has multiple outcomes:
    • The battle against the Griffin was long enough and Fulvio was able to capture all the details of the Griffin.
    • The battle against the Griffin had only ample time and Fulvio only captured some details of the Griffin.
    • The battle against the Griffin was too short and Fulvio failed to capture the details of the Griffin.
  • Progress the story to unlock this quest and approach Klark at the Noble Quarter in Vernworth.
  • We recommend resting at an inn before meeting Fulvio at the Griffin's Nest so you can reload your save file if you're not happy with the end result of the sculpture or if you accidentally did something wrong.

Dragon's Dogma 2 A Case of Sculptor's Block Quest Walkthrough

Visit Fulvio in Battahl

This quest is not affected by the passage of time or "time-limited", and progressing this quest requires the player to reach Bakbattahl located in the region of Battahl. Players can only reach this area after completing the quest "Feast of Deception", where you'll receive the border entry permit from Brant. When you arrive at Bakbattahl, head to Fulvio's Workshop to progress the quest.

Head inside the workshop and speak to Fulvio. You'll learn from him that he is having trouble devising ideas to create the "perfect" sculpture and suggests that you accompany him in finding and fighting a Griffin. The only gist is, that you'll need to somehow "prolong" the battle for as long as possible so that he can complete his sketch. Now there are two ways to approach this

  1. Obtain the "Medusa Head" or a "Preserved Medusa Head" and use it at the Griffin to turn it into stone.
  2. Equip low level/stats weapons to minimize the damage inflicted on the beast and to prevent it from flying away.
  3. Put the Griffin to Sleep and wait until Fulvio advises you that it's done

How to Get Medusa's Head

Medusa can be located in the Caliginous Depths [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map], and decapitating her will result in acquiring two versions of the body part, depending on what you did when fighting the Gorgon. Getting the "Medusa Head" will also suffice but it will eventually decay if you don't immediately rush to the location where the Griffin is. Players will get the regular Medusa Head if they inflict a lot of damage to her health and eventually, cut off her head. On the other hand, if you immediately cut off her head while keeping her well-being in a healthy state, you can obtain the "Preserved Medusa Head". But again, either version of Medusa's head will still work against the Griffin.

  • EASY TIP TO GET A PRESERVED MEDUSA HEAD:
    • STEP 1: Requires the Warfarer vocation
    • STEP 2: Equip weapons for Magick Archer and Warrior
    • STEP 3: When you enter the creature's den, use the skill Soporific Bolt
    • STEP 4: Once Medusa is put to sleep, quickly approach her head and swap to a Warrior weapon.
    • STEP 5: Use the skill Indomitable Lash to cut off the creature's head.
    • ALTERNATE TIP: Using a thief weapon will also work and repetitive slices will eventually cut off her head.

Meet Fulvio at the Griffin's Nest

NOTE: We recommend resting at an inn before meeting Fulvio so you can reload your save file if you're not happy with the end result of the sculpture or if you accidentally did something wrong.

The location of the Griffin's nest will be pinned to your map, it's located northwest of Bakbattahl. When you arrive, you'll find Fulvio waiting for you by the entrance. Speak to him and he'll lead you to the location of the Griffin. Now again, the goal here is to prolong the battle for as long as possible, and make sure that Fulvio does not die here! This NPC can die since he will be around the Griffin's nest trying to complete his sketch.

  • Before approaching the Griffin, make sure to tell your pawns to WAIT. If the Griffin is turned into stone, this will prevent them from attacking and breaking the petrified beast into pieces.
  • The same goes if you want to put the beast to sleep, command your pawns to WAIT. So that they will avoid attacking the Griffin while it is asleep.
  • If you go in to fight the beast, as mentioned, make sure to prolong the battle for as long as possible. And once the Griffin flies away, Fulvio will mention that his sketch is done.
  • If Fulvio captured all the details, he would say something like "'Tis done! With this sketch, I will doubtless be able to chisel a fine griffin!"
  • If the time wasn't enough, he would say something like "I suppose that will have to do. I'll have to use my imagination for the finer details,"

Whichever way how you approach the Griffin, after Fulvio completes his sketch, wait a few days and visit his workshop in Bakbattahl and he'll tell you to meet him at Klark's Estate in Vernworth to unveil the sculpture. Back at Klark's Estate, before heading to the second floor, take this time to search around the house to find loot. When you're ready, proceed to the second floor and head inside the room on the left to trigger a cutscene where you'll see the sculpture.

DD2 A Case of Sculptor's Block Quest Objectives

  • Visit Fulvio in Battahl
  • Accompany Fulvio.
  • Wait a few days, then check on Fulvio's progress.
  • Attend the unveiling at Klark's estate.

A Case of Sculptor's Block Quest Rewards in Dragon's Dogma 2

This Quest has multiple Outcomes. Outcome 1: Fulvio had enough time to capture every detail of the Griffin.

A product of your daring and his own talent, Fulvio's sculpture is breathtakingly lifelike, capturing every detail of the griffin's petrified form. Hailed as a masterpiece and greeted with thunderous applause, this proud achievement will see the sculptor's reputation soar higher than griffin wing ever could.

Outcome 2: Fulvio only had ample time to capture the details of the Griffin

Having had ample opportunity to observe the griffin during your battle, Fulvio was able to render it faithfully in stone. The sculpture's unveiling was met with enthusiastic applause, and the promising future of its creator is all but assured.

Outcome 3: The battle against the Griffin was too short and Fulvio failed to capture the details he needed.

Though you fought valiantly against the griffin, the battle was too short-lived for Fulvio to capture the beast in its full glory. The result was a sculpture as rough as the sketch on which it was based, and the tarnished reputation of one promising young sculptor.

The Griffin is sculpted to perfection and the guests are highly impressed. - A Case of Sculptor's Block Rewards:

  • 4500 XP

Discovered this by chance since the Medusa head I brought is decayed. I fought the Griffin while it was raining and I equipped Frosted Daggers. It was so easy to get that thing forzen. Birdie was frozen several times until Fluvio said it was good and killed it. Got a "splendid" reward.

      • Anonymous

If your Medusa head has already decayed, like mine, unequip your weapons and start fisting the Griffin until you hear Fulvio say he's got enough. Make sure you keep telling your pawns to wait, else they'll attack it if you're taking too much damage. You'll at least get the "splendid" reward.

If you dont have a medusa head the solution is to burn the wings.

The fight itself is not hard. Its the fact that the b*stard keeps flying away. It is very easy to avoid this griffin's attacks. Have your pawns Wait so they dont end up killing it.
When the griffin starts to get upset (roaring or flapping its wings) thats when you want to set fire to its wings so it falls when trying to fly away.

If the Griffin is sleeping when you get there, WAKE IT UP.

The Griffin was asleep as it was night time. I was just standing there, waiting for him to finish, and he finished rather quickly. But he said "I suppose my imagination will have to take care of the details." I assumed I did it correctly, since the Griffin was asleep and I was just standing next to it. But no. It was carved poorly and the I got a bad outcome.

I even brought a Medusa head and everything. I just didn't use it because the Griffin was already sleeping. I used it afterward since it was already withering and i didnt want to waste it, but yeah. What a bummer. The quest must be glitched or something.

            • Anonymous

I petrified the griffin with the medusa head and the revealed sculpture was a "Masterpiece". The reward was 4500xp and 18500 gold.

              • Anonymous

Met Fulvio while exploring, then the dumbass go running towards the griffin and, as I did not have a medusa head, I did not follow him.
Got back there with a head, no griffin and no Fulvio.
Turns out Fulvio is dead in Bakbattahl morgue.
Revived him, went back to the nest, Fulvio is there but no griffin...
Fulvio bugs out, runs away, says the line for the worst reward.

Decided to try a few things:

                1. Tried going there with the griffin sleeping at night, succeded in petrifing with the head, same result, Fulvio runs away saying the line for the worst reward;
                2. Tried griffin surfing there from another spot, succeded in petrifing with the head and... same result, Fulvio runs away, worst reward;

                Definetly bugged.

Had a hilarious incident with this quest, as soon as Fulvio left Bakbattahl a griffin attacked...if only he'd have waited 5 mins

                  • Anonymous

Sooooo as soon as I got there the Griffon flew away, no chance to hit it, no chance to sleep it, no chance to turn it to stone. Trash quest, never wasting my time doing this quest in any NG+ play throughs.

                    • Anonymous

Fulvio takes 1-2 minutes, after which a voice line will prompt of him saying he has enough to go on.

I was able to hold the griffin in place by using Trickster's Effigial Incense and using the "Wait" command for pawns so they wouldn't attack.

As soon as Fulvio said he'd seen enough, I hit "Go" and my pawns killed the griffin pretty quickly.

Klark found the sculpture "splendid" and I received the 14,000 GP and 4,500 XP reward.

I met Fluvio but didn't want to fight the griffin so I didn't follow him.
I went back to the area a few days later and there is no one to be found, the quest tells me to go to the nest but there is nothing there...

                        • Anonymous

Went back to Klark’s for the unveiling and nothing happens when I walk into the room. Klark is not there. Need help!

Arrived at the location with a preserved Medusa head.
                              No griffin in sight.
Fulvio says "My heart, it quails" and runs away... From nothing.
Quest log updates to "check on Fulvio's progress in a few days".

                              10/10 quest.

Don't need the Medusa head, just fight the griffin until he says he has enough to go on. This happened naturally in my case, when the griffin got to its last health bar he said something like he's seen enough to finish.

                                • Anonymous

Quest doesn't even make any sense. When he unveiled the sculpture it looked great but they all laughed and he said it's shameful. Literally the only difference between the not finished and finished one is that the griffin is standing on all fours or on two feet.

I didnt get anything for this quest. I petrified the griffin with medusa's head and got a thunderous applause at the unvieling and all it said was "quest complete". No money or anything.

I have no idea why Fulvio can't just sketch the griffin at his leisure when I kill it, but hey, I guess that's the challenge.

just bring a mage pawn with only the fire affinity buff. teell hium to help you via pawn command and once you got the buff, tell him to wait so he doesnt attack. damage the griffon while you have the fire buff, set him on fire. when he is on the ground, dont use the heavy attack on his head, wait around. once he stop burning repeat the steps and set him on fire again. you need to tell the pawn to help you so he uses the buff on you again.

                                        • Anonymous

Soporific Bolt for the Magick Archer vocation makes this quest a breeze, you can just keep the griffin chain slept until the artist is done.

boy i wish the medusa head did anything at all here. i equipped it, used it (you have to go back into the inventory to do so) and it instantly disappeared from my inventory with no effect on the griffin. may have been because i only got the withered one when i killed the medusa? guess i'll try again in ng+ smh

                                            • Anonymous

****ass griffin flew away mid fight bc i was killing it too fast and pulled away a little so it wouldn't die

                                              • Anonymous

the griffon will attempt to flee, if it gets away you get the bad ending for the quest.
to prevent it from escaping, keep it on fire.
                                                good luck.
