Medusa is an enemy in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Killing Enemies in DD2 will earn you experience and discipline points, and cause them to drop Materials which can be used to enhance weapons for increased stats and enhance armor for better damage mitigation. This page will cover all relevant information about Medusa, which includes her item drops, where to find her, skills she can use, stats, and combat strategies.

DD2 Medusa Enemy Information

Medusa is a large monster with the lower half of a snake, the upper half of a woman, and snakes for hair. She fights with a bow and arrows, and has the ability inflict the Petrified and Poisoned debilitations. She is first encountered at the Excavation Site as part of the combat tutorial during the game’s first main Quest, Gaoled Awakening, and can later be found in the Caliginous Depths.

There are three Medusa-related trophies that players can earn in Dragon’s Dogma 2:

  • bronze trophy ps5 wiki guide30pxGetting a Head: For this bronze trophy, you have to get a Preserved Medusa Head. To do so, you must decapitate her while she is at her first or second health bar (see section “How to get Medusa Head” for more information). Climb up to her head, and perform basic melee attacks (don’t use other attacks, as they may inflict too much damage) until her head falls off.
  • bronze trophy ps5 wiki guide30pxOff With its Head!: This bronze trophy can be earned by climbing up to her head, and then performing basic melee attacks until her head falls off.
  • silver trophy ps5 wiki guide30pxAn Eye for an Eye: Once you obtain a Preserved Medusa Head, wait for Medusa to respawn, then use it against her to petrify her. It is important to note that leaving the Preserved Medusa Head in your inventory for a prolonged period of time will cause it to rot, but that leaving it in storage will preserve it. Once you are ready, add the head to your inventory and head to Medusa’s lair (don’t rest on the way). Equip the head from your inventory and select “brandish” while aiming at her.

Medusa Drops in Dragon's Dogma 2

Medusa drops items based on chance. Sometimes, she may drop nothing. Not all drops are listed on this table so please edit the page if you find any missing. Note that different types or levels of enemies have slightly different drop rates, so we have marked a range instead of a fixed number. Higher level enemies tend to yield more valuable items, often in larger quantities.

Medusa Combat Guide for DD2

(Note that the Arisen’s first encounter with Medusa at the Excavation Site at the start of the game acts as a combat tutorial, so she will flee once she has taken a certain amount of damage. It is neither necessary nor expected that you defeat her during this encounter.)

Medusa primarily uses ranged attacks while circling the field of battle. She is capable of firing poison traps and exploding arrows, and of using her gaze to turn characters to stone. Key strategies for beating her include targeting her head with ranged attacks, or climbing her body to attack her head directly. Fighters may also want to use the Daughter of the Evening shield, which will reflect her petrifying gaze back onto her.

The most important curatives to have in your inventory ready for an encounter with Medusa are any or all of the following: Malleating Elixir, Detoxifying Decoction, Panacea, and Allheal Elixir. It is an equally good idea to have plenty of stamina restoratives. You can also equip the Ring of Motility, which prevents the wearer’s petrifaction value from accumulating – this is available from the Agamen Ruins Apothecary for 20,000 gold. The  Subtlety augment, available via the Thief vocation, is useful for avoiding her attention.

Encounter at the Caliginous Depths

The most efficient strategy is to make use of a melee-based vocation such as Thief or Fighter, or a melee-oriented Warfarer. High mobility is important for avoiding her petrifying gaze and ranged attacks, so make sure that your carry weight is average or below.

Allow your pawns to take the brunt of her attention, then climb her back until you reach her head. Keep employing basic melee attacks around her head and the back of her neck (although be warned that there’s a risk of her shaking you off!). Dealing enough damage in this way will stun her, providing the perfect opportunity to finish her off. The stamina-restoring curatives will be very useful here.

If your vocation is Warfarer, you can use Soporific Bolt from the Magick Archer vocation to put Medusa to sleep, then switch to a melee weapon to decapitate her while she’s sleeping.

How to get Medusa Head

  • Defeat  Medusa in the Caliginous Depths [Map Link] by chopping off her head.
  • Obtain "Preserved Medusa Head" instead: Special conditions: You get a Preserved Medusa Head from decapitating Medusa before depleting her first health bar. Avoid bringing any pawns with high damage-dealing potential such as a Warrior or Sorcerer, and instead opt for any combination of thief, archer, or support-oriented mage – the pawns’ main purpose here is to occupy Medusa while you attack her directly. Climb to her head and use basic melee attacks until you decapitate her.

Can you try to fight Medusa again for the head?

  • Yes, it is possible to fight Medusa again if you fail to retrieve the Preserved Medusa Head. Just rest for 7 days and come back to her lair which is in Calignious Depths, south of Bakbattahl.  [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map]

Can you Petrify Medusa with her own head?

Yes, to petrify Medusa with her own head, defeat her before depleting her first health bar and once you get the Preserved Medusa Head, store it immediately at Pilgrim's Inn and wait for 7 days. After 7 days, get the head from the storage and head back to her lair at the Caliginous Depths [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map]. You'll find that she has respawned. Equip the head while in battle and brandish it, then point the head towards her, which will then petrify Medusa.

Dragon's Dogma 2 Medusa Skills

The related skills that the Medusa enemy use are to be indicated on this section.

DD2 Medusa Notes and Tips

  • If you cut off her head you gain the Medusa Head item which can be used to petrify another enemy. Depending on her remaining health when you decapitate her, the version and the petrifying power of the head varies:
  • Medusa can be petrified using the Preserved Medusa Head or by deflecting her petrifying gaze with the Daughter of the Evening shield, which gives the An Eye for an Eye achievement.
  • The Preserved Medusa Head or Medusa Head items are useful to the quest A Case of Sculptor’s Block.

Using warfarer with Greatsword+magick archer bow

Fire soporific dart until sleep stat procs. Medusa will then fall asleep with her head resting on the ground. Switch to greatsword into heavy attack directly on the head or indominable slash, for a one-shot finish.

I, personally, just used the standard heavy attack with the Wounded Heart greatsword and it killed in one hit.

Many endgame items use the bone as an upgrade material and you can only kill her twice during the endgame phase, so I recommend you farm her for a while before progressing the story, specially if you wanna upgrade many things.

In a attempt to get the head, I used ring of Derision as Thief Warfarer and just climbed on her and attacked the head. I did not manage to kill her but I did get the Bow with a rng basic attack steal while with Pilfer I got 3x Hunk of Rift Crystal. Don't use the ring unless your farming for the bow.

Killed her once, didn't get any sort of head, and now seems she won't respawn for me, I've camped way more than 7 days :(

is there really only one on the entire map? seems a waste of a cool enemy to only put one in the whole game.

"You're first encounter with the Gorgon", "Your goal is to accomplish this", "As soon as you reach the head part of her", "Medusa will enter a state of stunnedness".... JESUS F CHRIST WHO WROTE THIS

It was almost cinematic the way I killed her. I charged an Arc of Might on her back, let it rip and jump heavied her head perfectly. Straight out of a movie.

Trickster is both amazing and horrible against her.

Espial Incense your simulacrum into the air and you’ve essentially disabled her the whole fight. She’s poison arrows always arc, so it misses. It can’t be petrified, so she stares at one spot the whole time.

However, she is also immune to Dragon’s Delusion.

The one ability that can stagger and knockdown most other bosses does nothing to her.

                    Thanks Itsuno.

Only use the Mirror Shield for the achievement because you will get absolutely no loot. Defeated in 15 or so seconds.

Went to Caliginous Depths to kill, but she is not there. Got the helmet and left, no incident. I've seen a few posts of people experiencing the same but no one seems to know of a fix for how to get her to show up :(

                        • Anonymous

I think you have to hit her head with standard attacks. I hit her with the rogue "Draw and Quarter" skill like 3-4 times and she died dropping no head

                          • Anonymous

I used the Warfarer. Put her to sleep with the Soporific Bolt with the Magic Archer weapon, then grabbed her head with a Thief weapon (it could work with any blade idk) and Beheaded her on the first hit. i charged the arrow before entering her lair so you can get her head with one hit like that.

You can also use the mirror shield (in the castle vaut) to block, reflect back and petrify her (myth style)

really sucks I killed this boss before knowing there was a few achievements locked to it, thing is I'd need to get her head in order to use it on her, so I gotta wait till NG2 or something

If you'd like to make short work of this enemy type, I highly recommend frost damage/attacks. Made quick work of this boss.
