A Beggar's Tale is a Quest for Dragon's Dogma 2 (DD2). A Beggar's Tale is not affected by the passage of time and involves uncovering the real identity of a beggar who makes well in Vernworth. The player will get a chance to decide on how they want this quest to end.
Albert of the slums seems to be doing quite well for himself, but even his fellow beggars are baffled by how much coin he has in spite of his meager means.
How to Unlock A Beggar's Tale Quest in Dragon's Dogma 2
This quest has multiple activations and completion methods.
- Approach Albert (the beggar) in front of the Dragon Fountain at the plaza of Vernworth. Listen to his cries and then speak to a Beastren NPC nearby to trigger the quest. This NPC is Benton. See A Beggar's Tale on the [Dragon's Dogma 2 Map].
- Alternatively acquiring the Beggar's Garb from the house in the common quarter will also initiate the quest. That is if you stumble upon the unlocked house at night while randomly exploring.
Dragon's Dogma 2 A Beggar's Tale Quest Notes & Tips
- This quest does not unlock any other quest
- This quest has multiple outcomes:
- Give the garb back to Albert and he pays you a fine sum to keep his identity a secret.
- Give the garb to Celina. This will make Celina confront Albert and after a few days, if you visit the house, a guard will be at the entrance and say that the couple has been found dead.
- Give the Garb to Hilda. She will also confront Albert, and after passing at least a day, return to her and you'll learn about Hilda's decision and the punishment she gives Albert for his actions.
- This quest requires you to give 100 G to Albert to trigger this quest. Or obtain the garb from the common quarter house.
Dragon's Dogma 2 A Beggar's Tale Quest Walkthrough
Keep an eye on Albert
After getting the quest from Benton, your objective is to watch Albert go about his day. According to him, Albert seems to be doing well and he's sure it's not his great storytelling skills.
Now, since there is something "fishy" with this beggar, your task is to try and follow him to discover his secret. You can wait until night and follow him when he leaves the plaza or use a bench to skip time until night and then return to his spot. Simply follow him and you'll arrive at Walter's Tavern, then he'll move, and you must follow him again until you reach his home.
- If you don't see him at the plaza if you decide to skip time, head to Walter's Tavern and check by the bar [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map]. But in some cases, you might not even find him there. If he's not around Walter's Tavern, then move to the location which is his "home". [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map].
At his home (if you followed him or went ahead to the location if you don't see him at the tavern), you'll notice that the door is locked. Wait 3-5 minutes of real-time for him to exit, and you'lll see he has changed his clothing to a noble garb. Go inside the house and pick up the Beggar's Garb from the corner of the room.
Deliver the Beggar's Garb
Albert is nowhere to be seen and only left the garb. It's important to note that there are three outcomes for this quest. It is up to you how you want to complete this quest which is to deliver the garb to three NPCs, YOU CAN ONLY CHOOSE ONE: (1) Celina who is at Walter's Tavern [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map], (2) Hilda who is inside Baldwin's Estate [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map], (3) or give the garb back to Albert who you'll find standing outside of the house where you picked up the Beggar's Garb [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map].
Outcome 1: Give the Garb to Celina
Look for Celina in the Common's Quarter outside Walter's Tavern and hand her the Beggar's Garb. It turns out that her husband owns this garb and Albert is a noble pretending to be a beggar. Then, visit Celina after a few days (a day should be enough). Return to the house where you picked up the garb and a guard named Todd will greet you.
It turns out that Albert and Celina were found dead, with Albert being stabbed in the back and Celina claiming her own life. Todd is having a hard time believing what Celina has done, especially to her husband. Todd informs you that a witness claims Celina was turned away from a noble's estate shortly before their deaths.
Outcome 2: Give the Garb to Hilda
Hilda can be found at Baldwin's Estate [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map]. You'll find her inside, sitting by the dining table. Speak to her and give her the garb. She will then tell you that she will find a way to confront her husband Albert and asks that you give her a few days. Rest or pass the time for just a day and return to the estate. Talk to Hilda and you'll learn about what had happened and what punishment she has decided to give Albert for his actions.
Outcome 3: Give the Garb back to Albert
The outcome for this is quite simple, you are to return to garb to Albert to help him keep his secret identity and his dishonest actions. You can find him outside of his second home with Celina, the same house where you got the Beggar's Garb when you followed him. [See Dragon's Dogma 2 Map]

A Beggar's Tale Quest Rewards in Dragon's Dogma 2
This Quest has multiple Outcomes. You returned the Garb to Albert:
Albert has been leading a double life all along, splitting his time between masquerading as a beggar and playing the part of a noble, with a different wife awaiting him at each household. When you brought evidence of his duplicity before him, he paid you a fine sum to keep this secret to yourself.
You gave the Garb to Celina:
Albert has been leading a double life all along, splitting his time between masquerading as a beggar and playing the part of a noble, with a different wife awaiting him at each household. When his wife in the slums learned of this duplicity, she sought an end to it all.
You gave the Garb to Hilda:
Albert has been leading a double life all along, splitting his time between masquerading as a beggar and playing the part of a noble, with a different wife awaiting him at each household. His noblewoman wife was undeterred by the betrayal, but sought to use it to her advantage.

"This quest requires you to give 100 G to Albert to trigger this quest. Or obtain the garb from the common quarter house."
Not true whatsoever, at some point the catman listening to the beggar in the square will just give you this quest without any requirements.

The absolute worst quest in the game, probably in any game (not exaggerating). Maybe it's bugged. But I cannot get his beggars clothes, I waited over 30 minutes outside his stupid home and he never left. In fact he never left it again as far as I can tell, he no longer goes to the fountain, to slums tavern or anywhere else. If I ever do see him again I'm going to kill him on the spot.
What makes this a candidate for the worst quest in any game ever is it makes you wait for over an hour of real world time doing nothing! Waiting for him to leave one spot and go to the other, where you have to follow "close but not too close" with zero way to tell if you're too close and then wait more time for him to leave a location again (and if you were too close, haha too bad he'll never come out again and you cannot complete the quest). ALL of this for total garbage rewards. At least dodging 200 lightning bolts in FFX gave you a rare, powerful weapon and not trash.

There's some extra dialogue and a slap fight if you bring the three to the same location.
After giving the beggar's clothes to Hilda and waiting for a day (quest complete), I carried Celina (slum wife) to Hilda's house and then dragged Albert downstairs in his noble garment.
The two women slap each other for several minutes while Albert covers in the corner and comments on how all is now lost and how he can't figure out how this could've happened! Celina then drags Albert off and I assume they disappear from the game, as I couldn't find them afterwards.
I tried this after reloading from inn save while the quest was still active (after getting the clothes but before giving them to anyone) and after the slap fight it sets you up for Celina ending of the quest.
Maybe someone can test out what happens if you drag Albert in his beggar garb back home and also bring Celina there. It's likely that you could complete the quest (in a way) without ever finding the beggar clothes just by bringing the three in same spot.

Quest might have a bug, loaded up my save after giving the garb to Hilda, and the result was somehow Celina killing Albert and herself despite not even speaking to her at all. Really annoying to be honest.

I ran into a glitch with this quest not mentioned anywhere else online so far. Albert was killed because of the DragonPlague and after reviving him, Albert no longer moves from the fountain and is stuck in the startled animation.

I'm guessing you can't revive NPCs after their quest is completed? Wanted to bring back the couple and see what happens...

If you rest until nightfall, you can go straight to the house where he changes clothes and skip the most dreadful parts of this quest. You still have to wait a couple minutes for him to finish up and leave.
- Anonymous
You can't use forgeries on this one. No gift menu shows up after the quest completes (which happens after you give it to one person) and attempting to force gift through dialogue after the quest does nothing. They consider it trash.

should bbe noted that after giving cloak to hilda and then returning to the tavern with celina causes celina to attack you. my pawns straight up obliterated her, but worth noting that she'll start slapping the crap out of you if you choose Hilda instead

Don't chase him after returning the cloak to him. If you follow him into the house thinking there is more going on you are locked in and can't ferrystone back out.
First of all, you're not required to give him the 100G, just say no and wait for him to leave.
Secondly, i recommend giving the garb to hilda, his rich wife. She'll give you the 3 onyxes which you can sell for 2400 each, so a total of 7200.
And it has the best outcome

He starts moving from the town square at 1PM. You can see the time on the ring in the menu background.

Psycho who is living double life also married a psycho woman. I'm not even surprised.
Celina seemed cute though, I get his reasons

"give him 100 gold, at least twice" RUBBISH. Never game him anything, still got the quest from the old cat fella !

I run into his house, he shouts 'mercy' and then I am kicked out ant the door is locked. No sure what I'm doing wrong.

There are 3 solutions to the quest. A) give the beggars garb to Celina that gives 3000 gold a noonbloom and later on you find out Celina murdered Albert and then killed herself. B) give it to Hilda she forces Albert to stop living a double life and get a "proper" job gives 4000 gold and 3 onyx. C) give it back to Albert and he keeps living the double life as if nothing happened and you get 5000 gold.
Just to be clear as far as rewards go giving the clothes to Hilda yields the most gold when you sell the onyx
