Pawn Specializations or Specializations in Dragon's Dogma 2 are skills unique to Pawns. Pawn Specializations allow Pawns to act independently which can result in unexpected consequences. Planning and patience are required to get the most out of Pawna Specializations and learn the nuances of the system. This page will show all six Pawn Specializations and how to change the Specialization of your Main Pawn.

  • A pawn can only have one specialization at a time, and learning a new specialization WILL REPLACE the old one. So be sure before proceeding with further changes.
  • There are 6 total Pawn Specializations, it is advised to experiment with them to try to get the most out of the system and find what suits your playstyle better.

How to learn Pawn Specializations in Dragon's Dogma 2?

Pawn Specializations can be learned when the Arisen acquires one of the six special tomes that can be used to teach these specializations. The Arisen then has to give the tome to the Pawn to use it. Note that the tome is a one-time use item, meaning it is lost once consumed. Learning a new Pawn Specialization will overwrite the pawn's previous one in exchange for the one contained in the tome.

Players can get these tomes by raising the Affinity of certain NPCs. This includes completing Quests for them, doing escort missions, or giving them gifts. Doing any of these three, or all of them will result in a higher affinity with the chosen NPC.

How to Change Pawn Specializations in Dragon's Dogma 2

The Pawn Specializations can only be changed on your Main Pawn. To do this, you first need to acquire one of the 6 Tomes which contains a unique Pawn Specialization. Once you have the item in your inventory, select the "Use" option to change the specialization of your Main Pawn. NOTE: The tome is a one-time-use item that is consumed to replace your Main Pawn's current specialization. There's no limit to changing your pawn's specialization and you can replace it as long as you have the desired tome.

Aphonite Pawn Specialization Dragon's Dogma 2

How to Get Aphonite Pawn Specialization

The Aphonite Specialization can be acquired by consuming the Aphonite Tome. You can get this tome from Eino, located north of Melve. He is Trysha's grandfather who you will meet during the Spellbound quest. Eino will give you the Aphonite's Tome by raising your affinity with him, either by giving him monster parts as gifts for 3 consecutive days (this includes Minotaur HornMisshapen Eye, and the likes), or you can accept his escort quest. Once you have a high affinity with Eino, he will grant you the Aphonite's Tome which the Arisen can gift to the main Pawn to learn the Aphonite Specialization.

  • Other NPCs that gift the Aphonite's Tome are SellaVeronika, and Norbert. Do their escort quests or give them their preferred gifts.

What Does Aphonite Specialization Do?

The Aphonite Specialization makes your main pawn talk less. Their chatter will become less frequent and prevent them from disrupting your gameplay. NOTE: The pawn can still talk in select circumstances. Other than silencing the pawn, the Aphonite Specialization doesn't offer much in terms of gameplay.

Chirurgeon Pawn Specialization Dragon's Dogma 2

How to Get Chirurgeon Pawn Specialization

The Chirurgeon Specialization can be acquired by consuming the Chirurgeon's Tome. This is a gift that can be received from Flora, a child whom you will first encounter in Melve during the quest Medicament Predicament. She will ask for your help in procuring a Fruit Roborant which you can just buy from Runne's Apothecary, or combine the ingredients to create one. After completing her quest, look for her again at Vernworth near Auriol's Shop (which will likely trigger The Ornate Box if it's your first time in the area). She will gift you the Chirurgeon's Tome when you meet her at this location. The Arisen can gift the item to the main Pawn to learn the Chirurgeon Specialization.

What Does Chirurgeon Specialization Do?

The Chirurgeon Specialization lets your pawn use curatives or healing items within their inventory on the Arisen and other party members. This is a good Specialization that can be used in a party when you don't necessarily have a healer but you don't want to hire a mage, or you can even use this on a mage that will improve their healing frequencies if you're especially struggling in staying alive. NOTE: You can consider combining this with the Kindhearted Inclination on your pawn if you want them to focus on healing the Arisen and the party.

Forager Pawn Specialization Dragon's Dogma 2

How to Get Forager Pawn Specialization

The Forager Specialization can be acquired by consuming the Hawker's Tome. You can get this tome  from Malcolm, a child whom you will look for during the quest The Heels of History. After completing the quest, look for him again at the Slums Quarter near The Gracious Hand after a few days. He will gift you the Forager's Tome when you meet him. The Arisen can gift the item to the main Pawn to learn the Forager Specialization.

  • It has been reported that you can also receive additional copies of Forager's Tome by raising affinity with other children in the Slums Quarter or in The Nameless Village.

What Does Forager Specialization Do?

The Forager Specialization allows your main pawn to mark the gathering spots of upgrade materials during your travel. NOTE: You can consider pairing this with the Simple Inclination as they will become extra useful in gathering materials and they will even give you useful items from time to time.

Hawker Pawn Specialization Dragon's Dogma 2

How to Get Hawker Pawn Specialization

The Hawker Specialization can be acquired by consuming the Forager's Tome. You can get this tome from various wandering Merchants and Merchants found in Vermund (we haven't tried this on Battahl vendors). Two confirmed working NPCs for this are Bjorn in Vernworth and the wandering merchant named Ines at Melve. You need to gift them a Bunch of Flowers for 3 consecutive days, after doing so, visit them again on the fourth day to receive the Hawker's Tome.

What Does Hawker Specialization Do?

The Hawker Specialization allows your main pawn to sell some items from the Arisen's inventory for a fair price when their weight gets heavy. Usually, the pawn will initiate a conversation asking you if you want to sell "surplus items" and if you agree, they will sell ALL of the items in your inventory. NOTE: This specialization can get tricky because you don't have any control over which items you are willing to sell. The pawn will not sell your equipment but we haven't checked if they are going to sell potions or curatives, or ammo if you are playing archer.

Logistician Pawn Specialization Dragon's Dogma 2

How to Get Logistician Pawn Specialization

The Logistician Specialization can be acquired by consuming the Logistician's Tome. You can get this tome from Kendrick, an elderly man whom you will first encounter in Vernworth and will give you the quest The Heel of History. After a few days of completing the quest, look for him again outside The Gracious Hand's Vaults building and he will give you the Logistician's Tome. The Arisen can gift the item to the main Pawn to learn the Logistician Specialization.

  • Glenna, The Stardrop Inn barkeeper can also give you the Logistician's Tome after giving her gifts for 3 consecutive days.

What Does Logistician Specialization Do?

The Logistician Specialization lets your pawn do inventory management for you and your party. They will distribute item weight among members especially once the Arisen's weight gets heavy. This specialization also allows them to automatically craft items and turn them into Roborants. However, this feature is constantly happening and can't be turned off. You may find yourself in a situation where you will need the raw material but the pawn will keep combining them with other ingredients. NOTE: The only way you can switch off Logistician is by changing their specialization to something else.

Woodland Wordsmith Pawn Specialization Dragon's Dogma 2

How to Get Woodland Wordsmith Pawn Specialization

The Woodland Wordsmith Specialization can be acquired by consuming the Woodland Wordsmith's Tome. You can get this tome from the innkeeper at Kough's Inn at Sacred Arbor. Give her a Bunch of Flowers for 3 consecutive days. On the fourth day, she will give you the Woodland Wordsmith's Tome.

  • You can also befriend any of the elven merchants in Sacred Arbor by giving them gifts to receive the Woodland Wordsmith's Tome.

What Does Woodland Wordsmith Specialization Do?

The Woodland Wordsmith Specialization allows your pawn to translate the elven language for you. This is especially useful when you are doing quests for the elves or exploring Sacred Arbor. Going to the elven hometown without this specialization on one of your pawns will show scribbled language and prevent you from fulfilling their quests.

While the Elven Royal family will just give you basic gifts, Woodland Wordsmith can come from any basic Elven NPC I believe. I got one from a guard after about 6 Bunches of Flowers.

Should be noted that the forager vocation will show where to get materials on the big map. Useful for knowing where drake's are throughout the world, and I'm pretty sure it updates from beyond the rift, as it told me where to get dragon scales without fighting any drakes yet.
