I used mine on disa during the evacuation. I took her to sven and he thanked me for bring disa to him, completing that sub quest. Now the phial is usable again.
I had 2 sealing phials during my first play through. I got my second during Sphinx. Did anyone else have 2? Started Ng+ now and have went to every cave but many Chests are already opened and empty so I’m not sure if I’ll find a second this time around.

Can't use it for escort missions, it fails the mission after you wander around a bit with the escort in the phial

If you have Sealing Phial containing a person it becomes empty once you enter the unmoored world so if you accidently mess up you can still save it for later. I don't know if the npc is still around but I'll check later and see.

Is this literally just a useless item that happens to be so rare you only get one per playthrough? Like what? You can just ferrystone people anywhere you want. What's the point of this thing then?

Wish there was more than one of these, cause I wasted mine like an idiot lol. I dunno why when I first saw it I just assumed it wasn't a unique item, maybe just a rare one like a portcrystal or something.
I used it on the oxcart driver going from Bakbattahl to the checkpoint because we got attacked by asps, the cart was destroyed and she got poisoned, so I figured she was about to die otherwise. (Based on some reports I've heard about Dragonsplague, she probably would have just respawned anyway, but I didn't think of that at the time.) I was looking through my inventory for a Halidom spell tome (which doesn't cure poison, as it casts the lv1 spell... but I also didn't know that) and saw the phial instead so I decided to go ahead and try it out. So that was utterly pointless. But the good news is I did succeed in saving her from the poison.
So, that's a fun fact about the Sealing Phial I guess, you can use it to protect an NPC who's about to die. ...Should you feel compelled to do so for roleplaying reasons or something. It's a fun fact though, not a useful one, because needless to say the Sealing Phial is drastically more valuable than a single wakestone (plus the 5000 gold if you need to locate the body.)

If you put a critical NPC in it and forget about that NPC until you defeat the big baddy dragon.... you cannot get that critical NPC out...

SPOILERS:
During the postgame escort quest on Agamen, I sealed Cliodhna in this, picked up Gautstafr and Ferrystoned back to the camp. When I got there, Cliodhna automatically left the bottle so that she and Gautstafr could talk to me, and my Sealing Phial was not broken and could be used again.

An oddity... you can't deposit this in the Inn storage. Weird.

So far every time i used it to store an NPC, the Vial disapears. Uppon speaking with the sphinx, there is no new dialogue ( i was hoping for an invisible quest item that when used opens a turn-in dialogue) So i would say do not use the vial until they patch it.

i want to use this to break the game, are there any npcs that can get killed during a cutscene that this could potentially save ?

She won't accept a forgery. I thought she would appreciate my cunning.

Though you find this during the Riddle of Eyes, one might also find another should they deliver it during the Riddle of Conviction...

Anyone know if this gets carried over to new game plus? I’m assuming no since it can’t be stored & to probably prevent you from carrying an NPC into a new dimension.

Once you get this you can never remove it from your inventory and it isn’t very light. If you want a cheesy way to store it, take it to the forgery shop and request a forgery but never pick it back up.
He’ll take it out of your inventory and hold it until you come back and ask about forgeries.
