      To add onto the other person: go at night from the arbor side and if the skeletons don't spawn, then just save and exit to main menu right next to the door. Keep doing that until they spawn. Also, I don't think going at night is mandatory but it wasn't working for me during the day, but worked at night so you might as well just to be safe. There's absolutely nothing of value in the room though, but it was bugging me.

        So same Anon here.
        Do the elf Archery quest then finish the one after it aswell, point is you have to kill everything in there as part of the elf quest.
        Then when you do it, wait a week then go back in and just stand near the door, also DONT! use Magic Archer Ricochet skills or they may end up killing the enemies behind the door, and you NEED them to hit the wooden lock.
        It should be a few skeletons and a lord, so do be careful not to die.

        Hope it helps, there are no other ways in, its locked on both ends and there are no holes to hit the wooden panels anyway.
        The loot in there is just a few potions and the lord drops, but unless you need that passage to get from Elf village to Melve its a waste of time.

          Losing my mind trying to figure out a way in here. It's in the Ancestral Chamber, which you usually access via an entrance in the Malachite Forest (you go there as part of a quest). The door into the Hermit's Retreat is barred from the other side. I noticed another path leading in slightly north-west of Melve Village, which is inaccessible without kicking down a ladder. You can use Levitate to get up to where the ladder is and back into the Ancestral Chamber but, again, there's another door that's barred from the inside. Both paths into The Hermit's Retreat are blocked and if there's a third I couldn't find it.
