Damage Types in Dragon's Dogma 2 (DD2) is an important mechanic pertaining to Combat. Damage is divided into two major groups: Physical and Elemental. Damage Type is affected by many factors, including your equipment, skills and temporary buffs. Players and enemies can also inflict abnormal status effects which can deal or modify damage.

Elemental Weakness and Resistances in Dragon's Dogma 2

  • You can deal damage to your foes more effectively by exploring their elemental weaknesses, and reduce the amount of damage taken from elemental attacks by donning equipment that increase your Elemental Resistance.
  • If you have a Pawn in your party with sufficient knowledge, they will be able to inform you of your foes' resistances and weaknesses when you face them on the field of battle.
  • Making use of skills and equipment that enable you to inflict elemental damage can grant you a significant advantage over your foes. For instance, combining attacks that inflict Debilitations with attacks that deal elemental damage will allow you to plague your enemies with some truly devastating Debilitations.

Enemies have Physical and Magic defenses as well as Status Resistances. Many other factors affect damage calculation. Some of these include:

  • Skill Used
  • Target's Weakpoints
  • Special effects on weapons, rings and equipment

Other useful links:

  • See Status Effects for all status buildups and other effects applied to your character.
  • See Buffs & Debilitations for useful information regarding the stacking or overwriting of effects on your character
  • Knockdown and Stagger are different mechanics that aren't necessarily damage, but affect the state of an opponent.

From what I've noticed, lightning damage causes a short stun or daze effect on most enemies. It goes away quickly, but if you keep reapplying lighting damage it can stop enemies from moving.

if I have a dagger that deals 500 ice and 411 physical does the damage stacks meaning I will have 900 damage now?

fire works on griphon like in the first to prevent then from flying, holy works on any undead, same with ice is really bad against undead, but nice during rain days, also slash works as weakness against saurians since you can cut they tail and they are weak there, cutting tails also works, same with strike against the head to make then daze, oil get cleaned with wet, wet cancel fire, you can even cure torched with wet status

As far as I can tell, Holy Damage is very powerful against things like Wights and Lich's. Any sort of undead enemy takes a lot of damage when being hit with Holy Spells. Enemies wearing a lot of metal armor also seem to take more damage from lightning based attacks.
